'Gafla' impresses the jury at Cyprus
IndiaGlitz [Friday, October 31, 2008]

The prime reason why a movie flops is because it fails to connect with the viewers minds.

The most commonly occurring cause of a film not being able to relate with the mindset of the audience is due to the weak, predictable and uninteresting story on which the movie is based.

Yet again there can also be other reasons like bad casting because of which the lead actors fails to do justice to the good roles and a good story.

But sometimes a movie in spite of being really good in every way possible still bites the dust due to its story or the treatment being very much ahead of the time in which it hit the big screens.

Until the DVD's of the film 'Gafla' reaches the video stores, we will not be able to find out  why this movie when released in 2006 failed to capture the imagination of the film lovers.

The movie produced and directed by Sameer Hanchate has now been awarded the Golden Aphrodite Medallion in the best script category at the third Cyprus International Film Festival.

'Where Souls Go' from Estonia, 'Soppho' from Ukraine, 'The Crossroad' from Canada, 'Cennet' from Turkey and 'Koroido En Taxxie' from Greece are the other five films which competed for the coveted honour in the film festival which concluded on October 25.

The story of 'Gafla' was based on the famous stock market scam of 1990 which was the brainchild of Harshad Mehta.

In the 50th London International Film Festival, the movie was hailed as one of the best 10 movies and also found a place in the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India in 2007.

Vinod Sharawat, Purva Parag and Shruthi Ulfat are the lead actors of 'Gafla'.

May be the film did justice to the real life incidents that made up its backdrop, but might not have been engaging enough to satisfy the Hindi film lovers.
