 Sooni Taraporevala, the screen play writer of the famous movie 'Salaam Bombay' directed by Mira Nair and released long back in 1988 has been awarded the best director and best screenplay awards for the film 'Little Zizou' at the 8th Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival (MIAAC).
The story of the movie revolves around a young Parsi boy's wish of bringing his idol and football star Zinedine Zidane who is also called as Zizou to Mumbai.
The film had Boman Irani, Iyanah Bativala, Kamal Sidhu, Jahan Bativala, Dilshad Patel, Sohrab Ardeshwir, Shernaz Patel and Zenobia Shroff acting as the key characters.
Although Sooni Taraporevala has been associated with the films right from 1988, it is now only that she has tried her mettle in directing.
Sooni has also constructed the screenplays of internationally acclaimed film like 'The Namesake', 'Mississippi Masala', 'Such A Long Journey', among others.
After receiving the awards, the jubilant director said that she was overwhelmed by the warmth with which 'Little Zizou' was received by the audience and that she could not have asked for a better world premiere.
The film festival started off on November 5 with the screening of the film 'Heaven On Earth' directed by Deepa Mehta.
Indo-American Arts Council is a not-for-profit arts organization fully dedicated to presenting, creating awareness and celebrating artists of Indian origin in the performing, visual and literary arts.
