A sad reality which has been in the making for some years and one which is now posing great challenges in front of the richest film industry in the world is the deadly decline in the novelty in the stories being presented by the Hollywood movies.
The golden years from the history of American movies reigned on when the technologies used for computer generated graphics and any tool that has enabled the movie directors to present their visualizations accurately in the way they wanted it to be without any sort of artificiality being visible did not exist or existed but in a very crude and primitive way when compared to the advanced and constantly changing ones.
So in a way we can say that the new facilities that brought in revolutionary changes in the movie making methods has not only given us uncountable moments of great cinematic pleasure showcasing jaw dropping visual effects etc.. but also has slowly decayed at least some portions of the brains that used to work for delivering powerful tales which needed just pure acting skills to convey the vision of the maker than any extra ingredients.
Great stories and wonderful well written screenplays dominated the film making senses of that time and the charged up creative atmosphere of that era gave birth to such colossal movies like 'Raging Bull' released in 1980 and 'Taxi Driver' in 1976 having the living legend and one of the greatest actor in the world – Robert de niro as the leading man.
These movies can be labeled as ones which still inspire, fascinate and is a must have in the film collection of an aspiring film maker.
Paul Shrader who wrote the stories of these films is considered as one of the greatest film writers and the Americans and Hollywood can always boast of having got the outcome of his creative juices.
But now the writer himself has become utterly disgusted and fed up with an atmosphere which is not enabling any new path breaking creative endeavors to explode.
This feeling led him to think of seeking greener pastures which are evolving rapidly and places which are welcoming every other talented soul to come and be part of the growth and celebration of imagination.
It is not Europe that has caught the veteran creator's fascination but our own Bollywood passing through a period of renaissance.
Paul believes that Hollywoodin terms of the financial community, in terms of audiences and in terms of distribution has become a barren place and totally cold.
Looking to exploit the new opportunities in B-Town and following film makers like Danny Boyle who directed the now successful and highly acclaimed 'Slum Dog Millionaire' and Jennifer Lynch who is currently making a film based on the Indian snake legend of Naagin titled as 'Hiss', Paul came down to Mumbai to pen down a story and subsequently make it a movie titled as 'Extreme City'.
The film says the story of an American who comes to the financial capital of India in order to help his father in law in a Kidnapping case but eventually end up getting trapped amid some sinister plans of gangsters.
Paul aims to make the movie blending the elements for which the B-Twon movies are famous for like some musical tracks with his film making style but not going to the extent where the end product will become a typical Hindi masala flick.
Anubhave Sinha who directed the film 'Cash' is supporting Paul Schrader as the producer and right now talks are going on with B-Town stars for the casting process.
