IndiaGlitz [Friday, December 05, 2008]

When most of his contemporaries are no longer working in Bollywood, the film maker/writer Gulzar is still going strong and the best evidence of his timeless shining mastery of words are the beautiful lyrics for the songs in the film 'Yuvraaj' composed by A.R.Rahman.

Over the years many accolades have come seeking him. The most prestigious ones being the National film award for best lyrics in the year 1991 for the film 'Ijaazat',  the lifetime achievement award for the contribution to Hindi cinema in 2002, Sahitya Akademi award for the poem collection called "Dhuaan" in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2004.

The number of Filmfare awards won by this true living literary gem of Hindustan is a long one.

In 1976 he won the best director award for the film "Mausam".

He was given Filmfare's best dialogue writer awards in the year 1972 for 'Anand', in 1973 for 'Namak Haraam', in 1996 for 'Maachis' and in 2002 for 'Saathiya'.

The Filmfare best lyricist award came knocking on his doors first in 1977 for the movie 'Gharonda', in 1979 for 'Golmaal', in 1980 for 'Thodi Si Bewafai', in 1983 for 'Masoom', In 1988 for 'Ijaazat', in 1991 for 'Lekin', in 1998 for 'Dil Se', in 2002 for 'Saathiya', and in 2005 for 'Bunty Aur Babli',

In 1975 he was given the Filmfare Critics award for the best movie for 'Aandhi' and in 1996 he was awarded the Filmfare best story award for the flick 'Maachis'

Now Gulzar Saab has again being selected for another prestigious award.

The veteran will be conferred with the Akshaya Samman-2008 award given by the Akshaya Mohanty Foundation.

Given in the memory of the legendary musician Akshay Mohanty from the state of Orissa, the recognition carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh and a special letter of appreciation.

Each year the award is given to a personality who has earned his reputation working in either the field of literature or music.
