Tapan Sinha in critical condition

IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, December 17, 2008]

One of India's best known talents in the art of film making, Tapan Sinha is ailing at the intensive cardiac care unit of the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI).

The 84 year old veteran director was admitted to the hospital more than 10 days back due to severe respiratory problems and chest infection.

Now also his serious condition has not improved even slightly and still continues to be aided by the life supporting system.

Tapan Sinha is considered as a film maker who is at par with Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen.

Just the fact that the master has been conferred upon 19 National Film Awards in different categories is enough to make out the scale of his inherent talent in story telling and the awe his name evoke.

Born in 1924, his works have won awards at several prestigious film festivals like that of London, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, San Francisco, Seoul, Moscow etc..

In July 21, 2008, recognizing his contribution to Indian cinema, he was presented with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
