 It was long overdue.
Given the contributions made by the one of the greatest composers Rahul Dev Burman, something substantial in honour of his memory should have been done long ago.
Recently the road in front of the house R.D.Burman lived in North Avenue, Santacruz in Mumbai was named after him.
At the function organised for the naming ceremony of the road, veteran playback singer and wife of the late music director Asha Bhosle talked about her relationship with her husband and also revealed some never before known details.
Talking about their 14 year long married life, she said that even though they were husband and wife, the nature of the relationship was more like being partners in a musical journey and being great friends.
Disclosing more about Mr.Burman, Asha Bhosle added that he was a complete outsider when it came to knowing about the material side of existence.
Giving an example, she said that once when he saw a diamond ring on her hand, he asked for the name of the gem on the ring. When it was informed that it is a diamond, he asked whether a diamond really looked like that.
There is no need to say that the greatest passion of any music maker will be music and so was the case with R.D.Burman.
The other most loved passion of the composer was cooking.
Asha said that since she is also a good cook they often used to have culinary competitions at home and that preparing food was a way of getting relaxed for her husband after the tiresome music making sessions.
The 74 year old singer also spoke about the reason due to which she sometimes used to fight with Pancham as Mr.Burman is lovingly called.
She said that the best of his romantic songs always used to go to her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar and he always used to prefer her for songs with screaming and high pitch notes like "Aaja aaja mein hoon pyaar tera" and "Piya tu ab tu aaja".
When one day Asha asked him about the reason for not giving her the soft romantic numbers, R.D.Burman said that only she could do justice to the high pitch songs that he made and if she refuse to give life to the compositions, then he will stop making the songs.
