Accusations of not being an Indian citizen have been hurled up against singer Udit Narayan for quite sometime now.
The buzz about the B-Town vocalist being considered for the coveted Padma Shri seems to have renewed the interest of his detractors in digging up the citizenship issue again. According to Udit he was born in a village named Baisi situated at the Supaul district of Bihar in 1955.
But some media reports have said that he was born in Raj Biraj town of a district named Saptari in southern Nepal. The veteran feels that the false allegations are made by some people from Bihar as they feel that he has not done anything for the state.
Udit says that even during last year's flood in Bihar he gave a donation of Rs.5 lakh and he sees no reason for people to get jealous of his success as he is not singing many songs these days.
To bring up an issue at a time like this when the veteran singer is to be considered for a coveted award seems really depressing. We wish Udit gets credit for what he is given to Indian music.
