The tussle between the producers and distributors on one side and the multiplex owners on the other is on an all time high and has ended up in the two teams going on an indefinite strike starting today. But the movie buffs can have some relief in that small budget films that have already been scheduled to release will be released as said in multiplexes despite the strike.
Among the films that are scheduled to be released in the summer are ‘Aaasheyan’, ‘Dasavatharam’, ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas’, ‘Sikander’ and ‘Kambaqth Ishq’ to name a few. Though it is the summer holiday season the release of films may see a hind seat courtesy to the IPL matches that will begin during the second week of April. A multiplex executive has also mentioned that they were planning to stream the Indian Premier League matches live!
But till things cool down the multiplex owners are contemplating on showcasing old films as well as international films. There are quite a number of Hollywood films bee lining to hit the big screen and if the cards are played right then the multiplex owners will be in for a good collection.
The film producers and distributors are on combat with the multiplex owners due to problems in the percentage of revenue sharing. While the producers and the distributors say they need 50% cut which the theatre owners are totally against.
