 His on-screen body language has been serving mimicry artistes or any performer for that matter. His mannerism attracted one and all, and people immediately identify them if someone tried to imitate him. A cap and shawl around the neck are still considered the metaphors for him.
Think Dev Anand and several memorable melodies will come down tumbling from your mind. Most of his movies were not only subject-worthy but also gave soulful songs. “Gata Rahe… Mera Dil” – from ‘Guide’. An exemplary work of Dev saab, the movie hit off well with the people then and also a favourite of contemporary times for many. It feature the impressive storyline and carried equally remarkable songs.
‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Prem Pujari’, ‘Johny Mera Naam’, ‘Haré Raama Haré Krishna’, ‘Heera Panna’, ‘Munimji’, ‘C.I.D.’, ‘Paying Guest’ are some of his noteworthy films. Numerous accolades and awards. Dev Anand added a charisma to the Hindi cinema with his distinct style and talent. But sadly his persona failed to keep up with the times and slowly faded from the scenario. Yet remain invisibly active behind the scene.
 Recently the Information and Broadcasting Ministry honoured Dev Anand’s production house, Nav Ketan Films, for completing 60 years. Incepted in 1949, the company brought out several movies that went on to enjoy success. His Black and White classic ‘Hum Dono’ was screened in colour version for the first time, in the event. The aged actor was visibly emotional and under an overwhelming tone, he thanked his fans for their support.
Owing his success and fame to them, Dev Anand said, “Aap sab ke aashriwaad se hum hai.”
Dev Anand shined through every aspect – as an actor, director, producer, writer – and established himself strongly in cinema than any other personality in the industry. Today Dev saab celebrates 86th birthday. Indiaglitz wishes him good health and best regards. Hope his persona keeps on inspiring the generations to come. Our hearty tribute to you.
