Ben Kingsley, the noted Hollywood actor, has come down to Goa, to participate in the on-going International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2009.
Popularly known as Gandhi for his role in Richard Attenborough's film ‘Gandhi’, Ben Kingsley is keen to do a film on Taj Mahal. Earlier we had it that the actor will be featuring as Mughal emperor Shah Jahan while he has plans to rope in Aishwarya Rai to play the role of Mumtaz. Now it is heard that if the actress gives her nod for the script then Kingsley will bring in his wife Daniela Lavender as Kandahari Begum, Shah Jahan's first wife in the film.
Kingsley, who is very impressed with the concept of Taj Mahal, seems to be very excited to start the project. He said, “The Taj Mahal is an amazing creation. It is a scream of pain frozen in marble. In my film, I plan to portray the great Shah Jahan with equal amounts of empathy and affection. I plan to showcase his vulnerability and strengths. Therefore, it is either foolish or brave of me to play this role.” Touted as his dream project, Taj will be released worldwide by dubbing in different languages.
It is reported that Kingsley is very serious about the film and he is looking out for finances for this huge budgeted project. He said, “During my few days in India, we have to raise funds. It's not fully financed.”
