Noted director-producer-writer Raj Kanwar left for heavenly abode yesterday afternoon (03 Jan, Friday) in Singapore. Kanwar, 50, reported to have passed away following complications after a kidney transplant. The filmmaker had been suffering from kidney problems for quite some time, quoted Shammi Chhabra, assistant director and close friend of Kanwar family in a media interview.

Raj Kanwar is the man who launched stars like Shah Rukh Khan in 'Deewana', Priyanka Chopra in 'Andaaz' and recently Luv Sinha (Shatrughan Sinha's son) in 'Sadiyaan' - Kanwar's last movie which released in 2010.

While Priyanka tweeted - "Saddens me so much, my first director Raj Kanwar passed away..RIP Rajji..You believed in me when even I didn't. Andaaz taught me everything I know."

Also conveying his grief was filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who said - "Sad to hear about director Raj Kanwar's demise. RIP."

Besides 'Deewana' and 'Andaaz', the filmmaker's filmography includes popular movies like 'Jeet', 'Laadla', 'Judaai', 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye' and others.

According to sources, Kanwar's body will be flown into the city today while the last rites will be held on Sunday at Oshiwara cremation centre.
