This is unprecedented. Promos of as many as six new films were unveiled in the week gone by and by the look of things, this Summer is going to be hotter than ever. With the flow of biggies being relentless and more to follow, at the minimum of 500 crores are at stake with everyone from seasoned actors like Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Karisma Kapoor to fresh blood like Emraan Hashmi, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra fighting it out with each other.
"There is big money involved and the flow of biggies practically every week means each of them has to make a sudden and instant impression. There is no breathing space but such is the curiosity about each of these six films that audience footfall can be expected to be humongous. It won't be wrong to say that just these six films carry the potential to make 500 crores between them just from theatrical revenue in India", says an industry insider.
Adds a filmmaker on condition of anonymity, "Let's see how big these films indeed turn out to be. Lot of careers would be made, reinvented or fade away in this Summer of reckoning. Also, if these films indeed turn out to be as huge as they seem, they should manage to wipe away the deficit of at least 50 crores created by commercial failure of big budget films like 'Players' and 'Agent Vinod'."
