Will Salman, Aamir, Hrithik end South action remake era?

When Salman Khan was churning out one 'desi' action hit after another in the form of 'Wanted', 'Ready' and 'Bodyguard', every other producer in the B-town started thinking that they now had the formula of churning out sure shot hits by picking up rights of films from down South. Suddenly South remakes were in vogue and just about everyone started following Tamil and Telugu cinema.

"So many out there in Bollywood had started taking it easy because instead of investing in new scripts and talent, they felt that just a visit down South would solve their problems", says a trade source.

However the trend may well see a premature end, what with 'Kick' being one of the last such films done by Salman.

A filmmaker says on condition of anonymity, "'Kick' and 'Rowdy Rathore' may be the last of big budgeted South remakes that would be seen in Bollywood. Salman has moved on to 'Ek Tha Tiger' which has a global setting to it while Aamir Khan too would now be bringing Hollywood closer home with stylised action in 'Dhoom 3'. Moreover with Hrithik Roshan working day in and night out in ensuring that his 'Krrish 3' matches Hollywood standards, it may well be the end of South remake era, especially when it comes to action films."
