Today Kalki Koechelin is making no bones about the fact that she was required to look ugly for 'Shanghai'. However the most miserable part was when her hair was chopped off at the very beginning of the month long schedule of the film. Expectedly, it was tough for her to imagine herself in that avtar.
"Time and again people ask whether Dibakar brings actors out of their comfort zone. Well, here was my moment of getting into that discomfort the minute my hair was cut", Kalki brings on a smile here, "Ultimately I gave up on the situation I was in and instead of pitying over my real self, I started working on getting the reel character right."
This indeed helped her as the dramatic thriller really engulfed her as she started delivering her lines in front of the camera. However that didn't quite happen without a tear or two being shed.
Confesses Kalki, "I used to be so depressed on waking up in the morning as I thought I looked like a complete idiot."
'Shanghai' with music by Vishal-Shekhar releases all over on 8th June.
