IndiaGlitz [Monday, August 27, 2012]

B-town seems to be going through a very bad phase with several renowned celebrities leaving for heavenly abode... AK Hangal, the typical father/grandpa of Hindi cinema, is now no more.
The veteran actor passed away on Sunday morning (26th Aug 2012). On 16th Aug, Hangal was admitted to the Asha Parekh Hospital in Santacruz, after he slipped and fell in his bathroom on 14th Aug, owing to which he had fractured his right femur (thigh) bone.

According to sources, when the accident happened the 97-year-old actor was treated at home and put on medicines. However, his condition started deteriorating and so he was shifted to ICU in the hospital and put on ventilator.
A very popular face of yesteryear films, AK Hangal had been mostly known for playing fatherly roles and supporting characters.

On a sad note, the noted personality all these years had been living in poor condition and ailing health.

He is survived by one son, who had been looking after him. Hangal had been constantly living in and out of hospital owing to a history of pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic kidney disease and hypertension.

However, doctors reported to have said that his condition was unfit for operations.
Hangal's last rites were held at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Vile Parle, Mumbai, same day afternoon.
'Sholay', 'Namak Haram', 'Aaina', 'Bawarchi' and 'Lagaan' are some of the films where AK Hangal is well remembered for his roles...
May his soul rest in peace...
