Love him, hate him but you cannot ignore him.. that's the charisma of India's sufi rock star Himesh Reshammiya..Coming back after a sabbatical for two years after turning an actor, Himesh Reshammiya is back with a bang as a music composer and singer.
Churning hits after hits the singer, music composer and actor has now turned producer with the b-town entertainer and the face of bollywood's most loved franchise 'Khiladi' - Akshay Kumar in 'Khiladi 786'. Together with Akshay, Himesh has given monster musical hits right from Aitraaz, Phir Hera Pheri, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye and Namaste London. Here with indiaglitz Himesh the composer, actor and producer speaks his heart out..
What is the mantra for the success of your music? You have been churning hits after hits?
Be it my earlier films for the latest films right from Bodyguard, Bol Bachchan, Oh My God, Son Of Sardar and now Khiladi 786. I have always chosen a certain hook line which will touch the hearts of the audiences. I often make it a point to use certain colloquial words which they can relate to. I think that works wonders as far as my music is concerned.
Tell us about Akshay Kumar and Khiladi 786?
Akshay is the most reliable and bankable star. He has given many hits and I am certain that Khiladi 786 will also be another hit. I narrated the story to him in a plane when we were travelling to Ahmedabad at 3,500 feet height. Akshay could not control his laughter while I was narrating. I realized that he will say yes immediately. He not only agreed to play the main lead but also produce the film. Getting him on board was like having half the success conferred on us.
Recent reports state that the makers of Aamir Khan Starrer Talaash have asked single screen owners to allow an uninterrupted two-week run for their film when it releases on November 30. This, in turn, will leave with very few single screens for Akshay Kumar's Khiladi 786?
Whatever reports you have heard about a clash between Talaash and K-786 it not true. I have confirmed with Eros they have booked 2.5 single screen theatres and we are in no competition with Talaash. I am confident enough that the film K-786 will be a hit at the box office mainly because Khiladi Akshay is returning with his title after a long time. It's a full on Akshay Kumar action and comedy film. When we made the film we had audiences right from the age of ten to 80 in mind. Akshay has given a brilliant performance and we have a story to match his performance with good twists and turns. We are not worried about any film. Having said that I think every film has its own space and audience. God willing I hope both the films Talaash as well as Khiladi 786 have good box office runs. Every film should do well because that will be good for the industry.
What is your opinion about the 100 crore league. Do you think Khiladi 786 will cross that mark?
I am looking forward to more than that. I am sure with Akshay around and the film catering to the masses as well as the classes we will achieve that mark.
So how are you going to distribute the box office collections?
It is too personal a question. I do not like to discuss my financial matters out in the open.
Have you and Salman Khan finally patched up?
Salman is my mentor. I have made a name for myself only with the support of Salman who gave me my first break. We never had any differences it was just a media created hype. Salman is a friend and shall always remain a friend.
On what basis did you choose director Ashish R Mohan for the film? Are you satisfied with his work now?
He was Rohit Shetty's assistant and a friend. I wanted a new director as we are promoting new talents. I was interacting with Ashish for quite some time now and felt that he would be the perfect director for Khiladi 786. I am completely satisfied and feel he has put in his hundred percent.
Why have you been away for such a long time didn't you miss out on work or feel that your contemporaries have gone far ahead of you?
I was full time into acting some films did well and some didn't. I did films like Aap Ka Suroor which was a hit and then I did films like Radio- Love on Air, Kajrare and Karzzzz which didn't do so well. I was doing music for films where I was acting. I was not doing outside films at that time because I didn't want to be exhausted or stagnated. I didn't want people to say that I was giving rubbish. I decided to take a back seat in music world but at the same time I was creating and working on a bank of music. Sometimes we are given deadlines and we are asked to compose music at the last minute. I didn't want to create shoddy work hence I took a break. I composed around 500 numbers and when I was ready I decided to come out with it. I came out with music for Bodyguard, Bol Bachchan, Oh My God and Khiladi 786 which are all hits. Now those 25 songs are out and the bank of 450 is still there. I have written twelve scripts and am acting too and making films too. Those who want my songs ask me or those who don't want I don't force them.
You have a lot of fan following as well a lot of critics how do you handle them?
It makes no difference to me. Those who criticize are always people who are frustrated. I always believe that when you are the centre of criticism your work is much better and you are appreciated more. The verdict of people is with me and I have 350 songs hit songs to my credit. I don't think I have to prove myself more than that. I have done worldwide shows too. Those who want to still criticize me have their own rights. I can just say god bless them.
How is the reality show Sur Kshetra doing. Earlier you were caustic with your remarks but you seem to have mellowed down now?
Yes I was caustic earlier on the show merely because I wanted my contestants to fare well. There is no point in pampering them when they sing without the proper sur or taal. When I was rude to them in the first episode they would perform well in the next. I have mellowed because I feel they have improved tremendously. I feel proud to see all my contestants have done well and made a name for themselves in the Indian music industry.
Do you plan to act in all the films that you produce?
I have just started my journey. I have to go a long way. Being the beginner I believe in learning and going ahead in life with whatever I have learned so that I can give my best.
