'A film is not just made by a director' - Rajeev

IndiaGlitz [Monday, January 28, 2013]

Rajeev Khandelwal is a happy man. Till the arrival of 'Race 2', it was only his film 'Table No. 21' which had managed to see a 'success' tag come against it's name. It is also notable that he had consented to work with director Aditya Dutt even when their last outing together, 'Will You Marry Me', was not just panned but also turned out to be a commercial disaster.

Worse, not many were even aware of Rajeev having done the film, especially after his repertoire boasted of films like 'Aamir' and 'Shaitan'.

"I will tell you something, what you see from outside is not what happens inside. Agar picture bakwaas bani hai toh whether Rajeev Aditya ke saath kaam nahi larega ya phir Aditya Rajeev ke saath kaam nahi karega ka koyi matlab nahi hota", Rajeev smiles.

This is where he ends up cracking while detailing his experience about moving in from the world of 'Will You Marry Me' to 'Table No. 21'.

"In the former agar kabhi 25 junior actors chahiye hote they to uski jagah sirf 5 milte they. Agar locations available nahi hoti thi toh bola jaata hai ki hotel mein shoot kar lo. However, since Eros was involved with 'Table No. 21', Aditya and I didn't have to think about such matters. We knew that everything would be taken care of.

Mujhe yeh nahi sochna padhega ki meri gaadi bahar khadi hai ya nahi. Or will my make-up and hair guy will reach on time", he chuckles.

Summarising in a nut shell, he adds, "Resources are given by producers and that was a major problem that we faced during the days of 'Will You Marry Me'. A film is not just made by a director; there are so many other things involved. Thankfully, things were pretty much in place for 'Table No. 21'."
