Legendary singer Shamshad Begum is no more. One of most magical voice of Indian cinema and pioneer of the music fraternity Shamshad Begum died at her Mumbai residence in Powai. She was 94. popularly known as 'Begum' she is a pioneer of the music fraternity and one of the first playback singers in the Hindi film industry.
Such was the popularity of the songs sung by her that many remixes of today like Kajra Mohabbat wala, Kabhi Aaar Kabhi Paar, Leke Pehla Pehla Pyaar, Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon, 'Kahin Pe Nigahen Kahin Pe Nishana' are originally sung by Shamshad Begum.
Shamshad Begum was not keeping well for some few months and was admitted to hospital. Last night the magical voice of Indian cinema Shamshad Begum breathed her last. She was actress Saira Banu's grandmother.
Shamshad Begum, was born on April 14, 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab. She made her debut on Peshawar Radio in Lahore on December 16, 1947, and went on to win many hearts by her mesmerizing voice.
The film industry noticed and Shamshad Begum went on to give unforgettable gems like `Kahin Pe Nigahen Kahin Pe Nishana`, `Boojh Mera Kya Naam Re`, `Saiyan Dil Mein Aana Re`, `Leke Pehla Pehla Pyar` and `Chod Babul Ka Ghar`. Which are still remembered and used for remixes..
