Mira Nair & Mohsin Hamid strike instant chord

IndiaGlitz [Monday, May 06, 2013]

While working with the director Mira Nair on 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' movie, bestselling author Mohsin Hamid found out that he and Mira share some resounding qualities.

What resonated with Hamid about Nair was that she profoundly and intuitively understood his novel. "I really clicked with her as a person," he says. "She is someone who comes from southern Asia and has spent many years here but has lived abroad for almost half her life. I am the same."

Talking about Mira's initiative of filming 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist', Hamid said, "An Indian director making a film about a Pakistani man. That's not an easy thing to do."

Hamid came to the US to study at Princeton University, then lived in London for several years before returning to Lahore; Nair left India to attend Harvard University, and subsequently moved to New York.

'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' is a touching and engaging story of a young man chasing corporate success on Wall Street. Post September 2011 tragedy in America, he finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his American Dream, a hostage crisis, and the enduring call of his family's homeland.

The film stars Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schrieber, Riz Ahmed, Shabana Azmi and Om Puri. 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' is slated to release on 17th May 2013 in India.
