Most of the gang members had their faces covered and were equipped with deadly arms. They forcibly restrained the cinema staff present at that time in the office room and while looting the theatre.
The gang uprooted and looted chairs from the theatre, the digital projectors, servers, sound system and other costly equipment. Besides the equipment and chairs, they stole other materials like coolers and generators in tractors brought by them.
The loot continued for more than five hours, until the manager of the theatre managed to escape and reported the incident to the police, who reached the place and arrested four persons while others managed to escape.
The looters are learnt to have damaged a major part of the theatre building too. The police managed to cease some of the material that was being carried away and are conducting an investigation led by Nandkishore Kale, police station in-charge at Karanja.
The word doing the rounds is that the dacoity was planned at the instance of a politically backed local land mafia, trying to take the possession of the theatre by forcible means.
