Raima Sen is perpetually in love nowadays!
[Interview by Hindol Sengupta]
Saturday, May 21, 2005

These days actress Raima Sen is learning about love all the time.

As part of the cast of Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Pradeep Sarkar''s "Parineeta", Sen is immersed in the enchanting love story that Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote more than 70 years ago.

And the actress said after her much applauded performance in Rituparno Ghosh''s "Chokher Bali", "Parineeta" is turning out to be her great love lesson.

"It''s all about love," Sen, who plays the character of Koel in "Parineeta", told IANS.

"There are so many nuances to love that I am just bewitched.

"Chokher Bali was fabulous because it too taught me different layers of love and how people behave when they are in love and what is love all about.

"'Parineeta' has its own subtle and not-so-subtle nuances that I really enjoy. I am very excited that I'm in the film and hopefully it will work wonders like 'Chokher Bali'," said Sen, daughter of actress Moon Moon Sen and granddaughter of legendary Bengali actress, Suchitra Sen.

"The most wonderful part of working with such works is that they really are full of different aspects of the man-woman relationship.

"Also they really reflect a Bengali culture and tradition that is alive in so many ways even today. Being a Bengali, that is very close to my heart."

Sen, a graduate in English, has a regal lineage. Her father is from the erstwhile royal family of Cooch Behar and Gayatri Devi is her paternal grandmother's sister.

She will next be seen in Rituparno Ghosh's "Antarmahal" and Anubhav Sinha's "Dus".

She said she was proud of her cinematic heritage but wasn't trying to emulate. "My grandmother did fantastic films, she is a legend. Those were different times and she got a wonderful variety of work.

"I am working with the people and the sort of movies that are being made now. I have been very lucky to have got films like 'Chokher Bali' and 'Parineeta' and I hope I'll continue to get films like these."
