I do films to earn money for my music: Lucky Ali

    [Interview by Prashant K. Nanda]
    Friday, December 02, 2005
Singer-actor Lucky Ali, last seen as a male nurse in Rajiv Babbar''''s damp squib "Kasak", says he acts in films to earn money for his first love, music.

"Acting is not my full-time profession. Films for me are a momentary phenomenon and I act only to earn money," Lucky told IANS in an interview.
"For me music is still the first love and it will be my priority throughout my life. But one does not get enough money in singing, which sometimes impels one to act in films. It is an extra income for me," said the singer, who is currently writing lyrics for his new album.
He was in Delhi to participate in a concert, which was postponed for security reasons.
"Music is a favourite subject in my family and it comes to me naturally. It is a family influence."
Son of the legendary comedian Mehmood, Lucky, 47, first drew attention in 1996 with his album "Sunoh" and bagged a number of awards including the Screen award for best pop male vocalist and Channel V's Choice award.
He complained that an artist in Bollywood rarely gets appreciation for original work. "When you try to be original, people stare at you."
Speaking about his new ventures, he said that he is doing two films - "Bebas" and "Unlucky".
In "Bebas", which will hit the theatres in February, Lucky gets to share screen space with Jackie Shroff.
"It's a psychological thriller woven around three characters. Jackie and I are in the lead role."
The "Sur" actor said "Kasak" was a decision he still regrets.
"Doing 'Kasak' was definitely a bad decision but it was an impromptu action. The whole idea was to have some money. But I still regret it as it was never a great launch pad," said the man, who says he also loves farming.
"Environment and agriculture are two areas that fascinate me a lot. Farming is not my profession but it's certainly one of my passions.
"And so far as environment is concerned, I believe everybody has a responsibility towards it. As conscious citizens, we should take care of our habitat."
