“I’ve Had Clashes with Santoshi and Rahul,” says Sunny Deol

    [Interview by Faridoon Shahryar]
    Monday, September 04, 2006
“I’ve had clashes with Rahul (Rawail), Santoshi (Rajkumar), but not with Sachin,” said Sunny Deol at the recently held Press Meet of his forthcoming action adventure film ‘Naksha’ co-starring Vivek Oberoi, Sameera Reddy and Jackie Shroff. Sunny hasn’t had a big release since the controversial ‘Jo Bole So Nihal’ and except for a brief role in ‘Teesri Aankh’ there hasn’t been much to write home about the He-Man who’s delivered big hits like ‘Ghayal, ‘Ghatak’ and ‘Gadar’. To give credit to him, Sunny Pa Ji looks cool in his new hair cut and his cool demeanour is only adding to his Style-Quotient. Over to this IndiaGlitz exclusive:

Your last big film was ‘Jo Bole So Nihaal’, so why this big gap?

I was not well for a long time so I couldn’t do a film. And when you start a film it takes a year to complete the film. That’s why I had a big gap. Now, every three months I will be having a release. From now on I just wish to work, work and work.

What are your thoughts on the music of your forthcoming film ‘Naksha’?

The music is very foot tapping. It’s my type, the dancing type. I enjoyed it a lot. My personal favourite is ‘Jat Yamla’ because I enjoyed doing it. Even in the promos of the film you can make out that I am enjoying it.

Is it a typical Sunny Deol kind of action film?

No..It’s a typical Shahrukh K….K….K…film…(Laughs) I don’t know what typical film is. It’s an action film, it’s an adventure film and I am sure everyone will like it. At the end of the day the audience won’t watch a film because of what I say or don’t say. People will watch the film if they like the promos or else they won’t watch it.

The director Sachin Bajaj is new…

The director is new but you won’t feel while you watch the film that it’s made by a new director. We all had a great time. It was team work, like a picnic. The adventure film requires different locations and the conditions are such that one has to support each other, so it was a family kind of atmosphere. I like working with new directors because there’s lots of honesty and earnestness in them.

Any clashes of viewpoint with the new director?

I’ve had these clashes with Rahul (Rawail), Santoshi (Rajkumar) but not here….(Bursts into laughter).

How would you describe your role?

It’s an adventure film where I play a Forest Officer. Since I am the forest officer I know the terrain of the place. My step brother is hunting for something and I am not bothered till mother comes in and asks me to help him. Then there are bad elements, different locations and it starts unfolding gradually.

How’s the chemistry between you, Vivek and Sameera Reddy?

The chemistry has been very good and that’s why we’ve enjoyed doing the film. It’s when the chemistry is good that’s when a film turns out to be good.

Something about the Stunts in the film

Since the film requires action, it has to be done accordingly. Action is part of the scenes of the film. The action coordinator was very good as he ensured the safety measures very well. The danger element is still there because in spite of the safety measure, anything can happen. We went through the mountains, the rapids in the river…The experts lectured us about the dangers involved. Their cautious approach made us more fearful….But at the end of it all everything went well. It was great fun.

What was the most challenging stunt in Naksha?

It’s not a matter of challenging or not challenging. If there are stunts that a person can do, then one does it and if I don’t want to do something then I don’t do anything of that sort.

How adventurous are you in real life?

I am a sportsperson and I like adventure. I like mountains more than the sea. So, whenever I am in mountains, I go hiking.
