How are you feeling after becoming music director like your father and brothers?
I'm feeling nice and good. Music is in my veins and becoming a music director is a pleasant feeling as I belong to the family of music directors, so now I'm also the part of this tradition. To create the music of project like 'American Blend' was a challenging task and I'm happy that I live up to the expectations of my crew.
How did you get 'American Blend'?
I have a friend named Edie, whose entrepreneur friend wanted to make a crossover movie with Indian flavor. The entire crew was finalized and they were looking for the music director who can create the popular American hip-hop kind of music. Edie was aware that I'm fond of this and also the follower of it, so he suggested my name and when I got the call, I met them and create a track. After listening to the same they selected me as the music director of their movie.
As you told this is a crossover movie with Indian flavor, but other than hip-hop music our films have lot more for the audiences, tell something about it.
Yeah! Keeping in mind the story and concept we have taken complete care about the music and along with hip-hop, 'American Blend' has the touch of Jazz, Pop, Rock and Indian Classical music as well. Earlier I made 24 tracks but 14 has been finalized and they have been sung by Sonu Nigam, Sukhvinder Singh, Daler Mehndi, Richa Sharma, Bali Brahambhatt and others, we're happy that it's being liked by the audiences. Abu says 'American Blend' has provided him a new life and identity.
You have been working as Event Director and earlier your albums were also released but don't you think that music direction is much different altogether? Tell us your experience.
It was a pleasant and learning experience for me. Though I did compose for my albums earlier so I was familiar to it and there was the demand of my favourite music so I knew that what is expected from me. I enjoyed composing music for the movie.
Both Anu & Dabbu are famous names of the industry, so obviously there should be the feeling of competition with your brothers?
There is nothing like that. Because all of us have big difference as Anu is one of the best and Dabbu also has the hits to his credit whereas I have just made my debut. It's just the beginning, there are lots of struggle ahead and for that I have long way to go. If I got earlier success even then I can't be kept in competition because till the time I will reach their current status, they must have gone far above to that.
Did you have learned the music from elsewhere?
Actually none of us have learned the music, it was in our veins. We got appreciation of our Abbu and we bought up using the old & broken harmonium. For us it is his efforts & appreciation that we have reached this stage. Although he is not between us but we have his blessings and inspiration in our life.
Tell something about future projects.
After 'American Blend', as usual event management is on, except that there is an album in pipeline on the great thoughts of Brahamkumaris featuring Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Shan and Babul Supriyo etc.
The young talent from Malik family is happy with the way his career moving, but he said to get success and creating his own identity there is long way to go where he have to achieve so many things and when he get his own status and success he'll be satisfied.
