Congratulations for the success of 'Bodyguard'! Enjoying the attention?
Yeah very much!! Feels nice when people recognize you... Now when people see me they say 'heyy that's Maya from Bodyguard!' Yup I'm loving it.
Wonderful! How's the Bollywood film industry reacted; any offers?
Offers are coming but they are somewhat similar to the one I played in 'Bodyguard', I don't want to get type cast. I'm meeting people and hopefully will say yes to something really exciting.
What sort of roles you are looking for?
Meaningful, ones where I am involved in the story and play an important part. I don't want to be just another glam quotient.
So who's your idol as an actress and what's your dream role?
Waheeda Rehman, I would like to do something like Guide, Sahib Biwi Aur Gulam.
Don't you think you are talking with the media a bit late as the movie is already released a month ago?
It was the decision of the producers and the director to keep my role as a secret as my character takes an unexpected turn and twist the film to a different level. Now when the people have accepted it, I am free to talk.
You steal Salman in the film from your best friend Kareena, in real life will you go to that extend to win your love?
No I can't do that in reality. For me love is not achieving or winning, it's about making sure that the person you love is happy.
Do you have a boyfriend, are you seeing anyone?
No I am not in any relationship, I am not dating anyone.
How true are the stories between you and Salman?
All absolutely untrue, Salman is not my boyfriend, he is my mentor!
Don't you think your British accent can be a hurdle in Bollywood?
I'm working very hard on this and it's showing good improvement. I don't think there will be any issues regarding my accent.
There's already a British girl Katrina Kaif in the industry who has already made to the top bracket of Bollywood, how do you take it and where do you see yourself in near future?
I am very glad to see how by sheer hard work and determination Katrina has made her mark in Bollywood. I am half British and half Indian. I want myself to be remembered as an actress, the origin doesn't matter and as I said I am working very hard on my accent. I have come year with a dream and a vision. Yes Katrina is an inspiration for me as being a British she worked on herself and now she is in the top bracket. In near future I want to be remembered as a good actress not as a pretty face who can dance and act a bit.
Coming to dancing, you are also a trained dancer. Even Bollywood top rankers like Katrina have done item numbers; will you do an item number if you get an opportunity?
Yes will love to do. The only thing is it should be a combo of Munni and Choli Ke Peeeche...
All the best for your future
