How would you describe your role in Housefull 2?
I play the role of Dabboojiís daughter Bobby in Houseful 2. My dad is trying to get me married to a guy from a big and rich family. Since Dabbooji, my father and Rishi Kapoor, who is playing his brother, are constantly vying with one another to see that their respective daughters are married off to the best of the boys; I am actually competing with Asin who plays my cousin Heena, who happens to be the daughter of Rishi Kapoor. Every suitor comes with the name Jolly and it leads to a lot of c confusion and mayhem in the film.
Pairing with John Abraham...
It is for the first time that I got an opportunity to work with John Abraham in Housefull 2, who I found to be quite intelligent. I did not at all know that he is such a big book worm. On the sets, John used to win the game of Dumb Charade always.
On screen cousin Asin
To tell you the truth, I was quite intimidated by her when I had heard that she was going to play my cousin in the film and actually expecting a big drama queen from the South. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that she had come to ground level though she had acted in several films down South and even came on time on the sets every day after learning all her lines before hand.
Why change of image with Murder 2?
I confess it was a do or die situation for me when I was approached with the offer for Murder 2. I asked myself almost a hundred times whether this move to take up Murder 2 would affect my career positively or negatively, because to tell you the truth, I was not sure whether Iíd be able to pull it off with panache. Luckily for me, the film did well though I was apprehensive whether gore will be there. I was happy with the way Murder 2 shaped up as a hard hitting movie.
The sequels started coming after Murder 2
Yes. It is quite uncanny that after Murder 2, I have been besieged with offer to act in sequels. I am a part of not only Houseful 2 but also Race 2. I also got the offer to be part of Raaz 2 but I chose not to do it.
In this film industry, you tend to get stereotyped if you are appreciated in a particular role in a particular film. I had received the offer to be part of Raaz 2 even before Murder 2, but after the release of the film, I felt that it was time for me to move on as an actress after doing a similar role in Murder 2 and opted to be part of Houseful 2 instead of Raaz 2. It was a major conflict as far as I am concerned, because Mukeshji had told me that if I was not comfortable, I should tell him that Iíll not be able to do the film.
What is your strategy of signing films?
You have got to see what exactly your role is when you are offered one. As an outsider, I am not too sure of what kind of changes are being made in the subject after it is offered to me and hence I make it a point to put my foot down to avoid being stereo typed in films as a firang.
Is it true that you turned down the offer to do Krrish 3, because Sajid did not want you to expose your body in the film?
I am doing Race 2. It was my bad luck that I could not do Krrish because the dates that Rakeshji required from me for Krrish clashed with the dates that I had given for Houseful 2. I feel that it is really very unfair to say that I was being misguided and hence was blindfolded following Sajidís advice, when the truth is that right from Day one I have been a complete outsider and have made all my choices on my own. I want to be credited for all the decisions that I have taken till date as far as my career is concerned.
How did you cope with your initial two failures - Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai and Alladin?
Unfortunately for me my career did not take off with my first two films bombing very badly at the box office. It was very depressing when people refused to touch me even with a barge pole and I had to literally start from the scratch once again to resurrect my career. I consoled myself that these things do happen even to the biggest of superstars. I decided to just enjoy the process because the outcome wasnít in my hands.
