    "People love underdogs"

    [Interview by IndiaGlitz]
    Tuesday, April 24, 2012
Sauntering in his suite at Hotel Sun N Sand almost two and a half hours later than the time.. Anil
Kapoor, who looks smart and suave, succeeds in managing to make them eat from his hand by
apologizing for the delay.. Indiaglitz spoke to the actor who spoke at length about Tezz and much more..

How relevant is the title TEZZ to the film

The title is quite relevant to the theme. Today everyone wants to gobble up information first and
that too very fast because news becomes stale if it is not relayed fast. Today everything has become
fast. Times have changed. There was a time when Sangam was a great hit though it had two intervals.
Nowadays you have to make a film entertaining within two hours like Tezz and there is a lot of hard
work and extensive preparation go in the making of a film.

How would you describe your role in Tezz

I play a cop called Arjun Khanna in Tezz. Ajay and I have not been pitted together in the film. In fact,
Mohanlal and I chase Ajay who is on the other side of the law. It is a positive role which required me to
do a lot of action. I should confess that I did the film only for the sake of Priyadarshan. All of us actors
are very confident of his talent and cannot afford to tell him that just because four films of his had
flopped in a row, we cannot work with him.

What difference do you find between doing a comedy role and an intense role

If I do a dramatic role, while emoting , I seek the help of lighting, shades etc to make the scene look
better, whereas when I do a comedy scene, how I perform depends upon who the co-actor with me is in
front of the camera, because comedy mein aadmi bilkul nanga ho jata hain.

Who would you rate as the best comedians in Hindi films

I’d not at all hesitate to mention the names of Govinda, Johny Lever, Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher, Juhi
and even Nana Patekar and Sridevi. I’d say that Sridevi is the best in our country today, as far as comedy
    is concerned.

How happy are you with the way Sonam’s career has progressed

I am proud of the way my daughter Sonam has carried herself and managed her career. When she did
Saawaria and followed it up with Delhi 6, people sniggered that she was like a behenji as far as her
costumes were concerned. When she attired glamorous costumes in Aaysha, people asked why. After
playing a glamorous role in Aaysha, Sonam once again succeeded in getting into a deglamorised avatar
in Mausam. Sonam has inherent dress sense and has been blessed aesthetically with her own sense
of grooming. I feel proud when I heard some people telling me that Sonam looks like an International

    celebrity.

Did Sonam have to struggle to be an actress or do you think she got it on a silver platter because she is
    your daughter

You just cannot deny that Sonam has also struggled by assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his films before
getting her break with Saawaria. If I compare my struggle with that of say my own daughter Sonam
today, I’d say is that her struggle is different in some way, because people’s expectations have soared
because she is the daughter of a celebrity. People love underdogs. I remember when I entered the
industry, because I was new, people said that I’d make chutti of Amitabh Bachchan and chadaoed me in
chane ke jhaad mein but I did not let myself get carried away and focused all my attention on my work.

How do you manage to look fit and young even today

People ask me how I have managed to maintain myself even now. Though I do a lot of exercises and
follow a diet, mainly it is in the mind. I always make it a point to think from other’s point of view and am
happy and contented in this phase of mine. I try to keep myself contented mentally too and it does not
matter if X or Y has had 5 hits in a row.

What are your projects on the floors as of now

Right now, I am quite busy with my films like Shootout At Wadala and Race 2 and the pre- production
work of the Hindi TV version of my celebrated English series 24 to be produced by me. I will make my
debut on Indian television with 24 in which I will play the role of the protagonist Jack Bawa
