Your film Kya Super Kool Hai Hum is all set for release. How are you feeling?
I am going through a lot of anxiety pangs at the moment.I am very nervous as well as excited.I am happy but also worried about the backlash that I am going to get after the release of the movie.
Heard you have booked a plane and are all set to take off?
We have booked a little plane and we are all planning to fly away on the day of the release to an unknown destination. When we did the first part the society was not ready for it but they accepted it and now it has taken me seven years to do a sequel. We would have lot more interaction on Facebook and twitter then but there is so much prohibition now and we are scared.
Why did it take so long to come out with a sequel?
On a personal journey we were doing a lot of television shows. After Kya Kool Hai Hum we went into a lot of other business. We made Shoot Out At Lokhandwala. We were caught up with lot of television shows. We gave away our projects to lot of other producers like Sanjay Gupta and Suneil Shetty. Though it was our own brand. In 2009 everyone said I should start making films then we came up with other films. I did three films in a decade. I wanted to make a sequel but so many years had passed by so we had to reinvent. It finally took seven years to do it.It released on 25th May. 2005 two months later the floods happened.
But your banner has seen a lot of hits with serials as well as films?
I just do the movie and everything to promote it.On the day of release I sit at home. I accept failures as well as hits with aplomb. However confident a producer is about his film he knows he is lying. Because at the end of the day you don't know how the audience is going to react on a Friday.Be it with television serials or films. When we did Kavyanjali we expected a hit but it didn't happen. Then we did Pavitra Rishta and we did not promote it but it did well.Mahabharat we launched with aplomb. Bandini also there were no promotions but it was a huge success. So no one can ever predict.
What is with the issue of your film Kya Super Kool Hai Hum. Heard censors have been harsh with it?
I am going to fight it.It's a superfine adult film so they are not happy with certain dialogues like Holkar and Dandekar. It's a carry forward joke of the first part but funnily enough they have realized this after seven years. The second point they took up was the pug in the film is named Fakhruddin. Some communities have problems with that.It has not gone well with the family of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, who was India's fifth President. His family has now objected to the dog in the film being called by this name. Imtiyaz Rasul, the nephew of the former President said that it's highly objectionable and that such things dishonor our former President. For me it was just a pronoun. I could call the dog dick or dikru but again there would have been problems. There are none of the physical attributes that is typical to the name.I am not communal nor will I ever make fun of any religion. I pray to all gods.I am one of those producers who knows the details about every religion including their marriages as I make use of them in my serials.Just because it's a political name and has a political background they are creating problems. Does that mean any name cannot be used on a vamp or a dog.I am a producer and make a programme by taking a pronoun so why create issues. I am a very liberal person and I am not going to back out now.I have not made fun of anybody and I don't want to be a loser and bow down.I have not made any personal remarks.
Will you ever take up direction?
No I won't. I don't have a director bone in my body, I know writing but I don't know camera angles or techniques.I don't know if I will ever take it up.If I ever take up to directing a serial I will make sure to take a break and take up a course in direction before attempting it.Even so I will have to resign from my managerial post before taking it up but that I cannot do.
Did you ever have difference with Sachin Yardi?
We didn't have any tiffs as such but creative differences.Sachin was very particular over the names and said he wanted to use them.He said I have not done anything wrong. He is a strong man so I had to finally given in to his demands as per his script. His wife Ashwini and I have worked for ten years together now.
What have you got to say about Tusshar Kapoor's acting histrionics?
I think he is very good comedian. He gets very little credit for his work. They say it's an easy route for star kids but I think it's a tough route because everyone wants to pull you down.Tusshar is a very underrated actor. From Khaki to Golmal, to the Dirty Picture, Shor In The City and now he has given stellar performances.
He's did a butt act of John from Dostana by pulling down his trunks exposing his derriere?
Yes John called me and said he loved it. He spoke a lot about it. He was very happy for Tusshar.
What is your opinion on the Twitter? People have already commented on your film?
Twitter I call it the venom site. There is a world where people come with fake identities. They sit in their cosy rooms and pass comments. It's easy to comment as their identities are not revealed. It's a mob mentality and Twitter is a classy mob.
What's with the Anil Kapoor controversy?
One of the websites had put up a picture of Anil Kapoors' 'Dil Garden Garden' but I am sure he was not miffed or else he would have called me.
Is it a norm with you to create controversies when your film is releasing?
It just seems to happen with me.Controversies help when the release is schedule a month later not when the film is up for release.Any sane producer who has sold his film and is ready to release will not want controversies during the last four days of his release unless he is desperate.Everyone uses it as a tool to trouble the producer.
What are the parameters that you set when you choose your directors. Do you engage Sachin Yardi on the same parameters?
No in Sachin's case he was already a writer of Kya Kool Hai hum.We look how bad or how good a director he is.But Sachin is great and full of comedy. With a seasoned director his work speaks for himself. But for a new director you need to see how things work so one has to keep a track of his work.
So who are the new directors you are planning to introduce now?
We are introducing Akshay Roy with the film which we are doing with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions next. Then there Aman Gill we have yet to announce his film which we are planning soon.I loved the way he's written the script.
