Ritesh tries to be over smart - Tusshar Kapoor

    Thursday, July 26, 2012
Tusshar Kapoor who will be turning super cool and naughty in the Adult comedy sequel ''Kya Super Cool Hai Hum'' gets candid with Indiagllitz and spoke about his latest release.

Are you cool in your real life?

I am cool, happy go lucky, hot in real life. I think when we are not happy ourselves then we lose our coolness not because of anyone else. Nothing makes me feel unhappy

Why sequel now after 7 years?

There were lots of problems...situational problems...Sangeeth (director of 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' wanted to do other kind of films ...he felt he was not a comedy director and he started doing action and thriller films so he was not that keen on comedy. Later when he agreed to do the sequel the scripts were not up to the mark and Ekta was not ready to invest in those scripts she wanted the best. Then Sangeeth got busy with his other projects, date problems of Ritesh and finally Sachin came with a good script for a film 'Road Trip Anjana' but we liked it so much that the Ekta told him convert it to 'Kya Kool Hai Hum' sequel and make it a two hero comedy film. The film came by chance...we are lucky no other film of same kind came in between...though we have had movies like 'Golmaal', 'Housefull', 'Dhamaal' but there the comedy is different. This is an adult comedy and no film came in this genre. I think people are waiting for this movie...

What do you think about 'Kya Cool Hai Hum' now?

At that time...it became a superhit. But it could have done better. Had the family audience come then the film would have done much better. Society has changed since then...before the film started we had narration for our mother's friends ...we had toned down the humor to all uncle's and aunty's said it is good but not as happening as the first part. So we brought back all the jokes and adult humor and naughtiness. Then again we had narration and then liked it a lot. Families have changed...they want to have fun. It has become cool...this kind of genre has become cool and there is no hesitation among audience to watch this movie ...our audience has increased for this film. Off course we will get 'A' certificate ...so probably kids can see the film. I don't think kids should watch it but teenagers can see it.

Do you believe that the genre film has audience?

I think it was ahead of time but now audiences are ready for this kind of movie...

When such films have audience then why very less films in this genre?

Lot of directors wants to make this kind of movie. We have a perception that a director makes this kind of a film. Lots of directors were not ready to make this film. It's a comedy with different kind of humor. People did not had guts to make this kind of a film... but hats off to Aamir Khan he made 'Delhi Belly' it is adult in its own way. It's a good film in spite of being bold and raunchy. It shows that a film will work if it is good all these (adult comedy and bold) things does not matter much. People will see if characters and script is good they will go for the movie...

How comfortable you were while saying your dialogs as it was full of double meaning jokes and bad words?

I was comfortable saying these dialogues - Lucky in both films I did not had much double meaning dialogues. There are no bad words in the sequel. There are double meaning jokes but they are smartly placed ...my character is sincere and romantic role. He is a struggling actor and does tele shopping ads. Like in the first part also he is perceived to be doing something which is not doing ...it worked because of the innocence of the character, Ritesh tries to be over smart but he is also bechara...

You and Ritesh are working after a huge gap so how was the chemistry this time?

We have not lost the chemistry...there is no issue with chemistry between us...

Is the idea of sequel came after The Dirty Picture?

We wanted to make the sequel always...even before 'The Dirty Picture' came in December. This is brand we were definitely going to make it but we were confused is the society ready should we go for it or should we control it. But that doubt was cleared when we had a narration.

Balaji is making too many bold movies.?

Most of our films have been bold like 'LSD', 'Ragini MMS' and all we got great reviews...Ekta wanted films which are commercial and art.... mix of both...she wanted that masses also should come and watch it. But we have had clean films like 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai', 'Lootera', 'Ek Thi Dayaan', 'Kya Kool Hai Hum' was naughty.

What you will say about your producer Ekta?

She is a good businesswoman ...she has learnt the tricks of the trade ...there is no such thing that this works and this doesn't. There have been hits and flops... she has a good team but it requires time to learn things...

    Sachin Yardi as a director?

I have always enjoyed working with good directors and team. It is the director who makes things easy for you like I am playing a character of grey shade in 'Shootout at Wadala' but Sanjay made things very easy for me, while in this film, 'Kya Super Kool Hai Hum', which is a comedy, Sachin made things difficult
for me. Different things come with different challenges so it is not about the genre or the kind of role, it is about the team that you are working with, how much the script attracts you...

    Rohit Shetty is also there?

    He is doing a cameo...

There was lots of criticism on you John butt act?

I was like why haters are following you...jealous people on twitter. FB is commercial...it is real junta...

    Your upcoming projects?

I am working on 'Shootout at Wadala' and there is one more film that I am going to sign it will start from August. The director is very low profile...when it is announce...he has done two-three films...

You are working with Sunny Deol but that film got shelved?

It is my loss...I want to work with Sunny, it is a great script. If they make it nicely and on time it will be a super hit...

The release date is shifted any specific reason

We pre pone it as we wanted to come in same week as 'Once Upon A Time in Mumbai' came 27 July and also that 'Jism' is coming on 2nd or 3rd... we did not wanted to clash with other film. Also it gives us three weeks before 'Ek Tha Tiger' comes and that film will be a hurricane. Let our film complete the run...

If you get the chance to remake any of your dads film then which one it will be?

I would like to remake films like 'Kaarva' and 'Farz' of my father...if I get a chance. As he was young and I am also young. I don't think I would be able to do 'Himmatwala' as he was in his 40s when he did the film that film is of older man. Ajay is best and he has got action image also...

You and Ekta did not think of remake of Himmatwala?

We have not thought of it. Sajid has always told me he liked the film and he wanted to do it. I am dying to see it, what he has done. Now action time is going on...but when the time of family dramas come in, films like 'Maang Bharo Sajna' and all that can be made...

Ajay is in the lead your reaction?

I am happy that right actor is doing it. Ajay suits the film; he is right on the physicality part. I am happy that it is in made by a right...successful director. We are not jealous...as I am not dying to do 'Himmatwala' and Ekta is dying to produce it. As long as it gets made well, gets good release, and people are throwing coins in theatre like they did for original 'Himmatwala' that is the victory. It was one of the greatest entertaining films of his time, but there is a huge list.

    Preparations for Shooutout at Wadala?

I have finished half the film...basically I keep reading the script and trying to understand the scene, I have created the character for myself, there is not much information available on Shaikh Munir, you have pictures of his dead body and whatever information and references Sanjay Gupta gave me...then I worked on it myself. There isn't much known who his relatives and all are, but I have gone to Dongri couple of times... meet people who are Muslims of that era. We wanted somebody who is real. They gave me reference of Chunky Pandey in 'Tezzab' like is little aggressive but has got funny side also. They said use your imagination and create character of Shaikh Munir. It is a tough role...to get into it again is difficult...

    Production?

I will see if I get good script and good director. No plan of production house, it could be one film in three years...depends on what comes my way...
