Sirf - Decent start for debutant Sohail Sen
IndiaGlitz  [Thursday, April 24, 2008]

Sirf comes across as a movie bringing forth the stories of people living in metros very much like Anurag Basu’s ‘Life in a Metro’. The only difference here, being that ‘Sirf’ has been done on much lower budgets and seems void of the necessary publicity.

The album marks the debut of composer Sohail Sen. Indi-pop diva Shibani Kashyap also does her bit as composer.

The album opens to ‘Ghar Tera Ghar Mera’ a sweet and romantic track enhanced further by vocals from Shaan and Shreya Ghosal. The track brings about the typical filmy elements of what makes a home but is indeed well composed and crooned. The track tends to grow on you eventually.

‘Pehla Woh Pyaar’ crooned to the ever zealous voice of Kunal Ganjawala tries to bring in that essence and thirst for one’s first love but remains majorly mediocre. Kunal brings about the passion cum rock feel to the track but fails to impress.

‘Mumbai Nagariya’ comes in as a number that tries to captures various emotions across the city. The track which acts more as a background score has been rendered by KK and Tarannum.  It isn’t the best around but does pretty well.

“Tuj Pe Fida” comes in as a club dance number sung by the composer Sohail Sen himself. Sohail delivers well with the vocals and delivers well with the nasals. The track however gets a little vague in its music and composition elements especially with the introduction of the female voice rendered by Tarannum.

‘Khel Jo Khele’ brings in the brazen Vinod Rathod to a track that puts forth the game of life. The track is much below average and is just synonyms to the’ Khel’ of life tracks that have been done over and over again in bollywood.

Shibani Kashyap does her bit as music composer with the ‘Life Peeche Peeche’ number. The track comes as a combo of one’s dreams and the ongoing process of life. The track has been well composed and crooned and is sure to do well with due promotion.

Kunal Ganjawala is reintroduced into the album with a more subtle number ‘Zindagi Ki Kahani’. The track carries inspirational overtones well blended with Kunal’s voice bringing about a ray of hope through its lyrical compositions. It simply is the best track of the album. Pamela Jain accompanies Kunal to provide for the female vocals creating a serenading effect.

On the whole , ‘Sirf’ is a decent album by debutant Sohail Sen with tracks such as ‘Ghar Tera…’, ‘Zindagi Ki Kahani’ and ‘Life Peeche Peeche’ doing well to sustain the film on the music front. But, the lack of due promotions are bound to affect both the album and the film.
