Darna Zaroori Hai - No chills No scares
IndiaGlitz  [Monday, April 10, 2006]

As soon as you are through with hearing the album 'Darna Zaroori Hai', the first thing you want to do is tell Ram Gopal Verma - "Stop encouraging composers to attempt creating another 'Khallas'!" Because fortunately or unfortunately, recreating Sandeep Chowta's 'Khallas' is just not possible! Nitin Raikwar and Taabish Romani, regulars with RGV, try this out in 'Darna Zaroori Hai' but more about that later. A true multistarrer sequel to 'Darna Mana Hai', 'Darna Zarorri Hai' is made up of three promotional numbers with a few remixes to boast while rest of the album is stuffed with songs from 'Mr. Ya Miss' and 'James'.

1) Khabardar (Two versions - 'Maut Ka Jayeka' and 'Zindagi Ka Jayeka') [Singers: Mohona Sarkar, Sukhwinder Singh, Kunal Ganjawala, music and lyrics: Taabish Romani]

Two 'flavors' of 'Khabardar' make an appearance in the album. First to come is 'Maut Ka Jayeka' [Flavor of death or whatever else it means] while the second is 'Zindagi Ka Jayeka' [Flavor of life!] with the common factor being the voice of Mohona Sarkar that was last heard in 'Dhokebaaz' and 'Khud Ko Maar Daala Re' [both from 'D']. She has that unique screechy voice that suits an item song wells and same holds fine for 'Khabardar' too. The song clearly imitates 'Khallas' but unfortunately comes nowhere close to it. The only redeeming factor about the song is Nisha Kothari's presence, her dance and some innovative sets that allows one to sit through, but only when it is seen rather than being heard. At maximum it works for the purpose of movie's promotion but if the makers are expecting music lovers to play it on their stereo systems then they are mistaken. A fast paced rhythmic number that has a loud appeal, it is has Sukhwinder Singh and Kunal Ganjawala singing the respective versions with Mohit'James'Ahlawat giving Nisha some company.

2) Aake Darr (Original and remix) [Singer: Mohona Sarkar, music and lyrics: Nitin Raikwar]

Mohona Sarkar continues to maker her presence felt in the rest of the album too as she features in two versions of the supposedly frightening number 'Aake Darr'. But then with Nisha Kothari on the frame, how could a viewer think of anything else and get frightened than to just look at her!? Nevertheless, to give the song its due, the music of 'Aake Darr' indeed manage to scare in parts while the promotional video too holds an edge when compared with 'Khabardar'. Mohona gives a much better account of her as a singer as the track requires her to demonstrate her range by singing at a different pitch. Nitin Raikwar's tune is unique in both the original and remix version while being based on western rhythm.

3) Boo [Singer: Sunidhi Chauhan, music and lyrics: Taabish Romani]

The very beginning of 'Boo' is in the same style as the background music of RGV's horror flick 'Bhoot'. But as soon as Sunidhi Chauhan's vocals are heard for this Tabbish Romani song, the impact goes sliding down as the tune becomes simply pedestrian. On repeated hearings, it starts sounding like a jingle for a children horror show for television that makes 'Boo' one big 'bore'. You just can't help but simply 'boo' at the track that is plain and simple forgettable.

Thankfully there are songs like 'Kamsin Kali' [Mr Ya Miss] and 'Zindagi' [James] that provide some redemption for the album but some more tracks from the two movies are hardly any reasons to cheer about.

Overall, the music of 'Darna Zaroori Hai' doesn't have any appeal whatsoever and falls flat. Thankfully the musical score doesn't impact your interest in the movie as one still looks forward to the episodic horror drama of 'Darna Zaroori Hai', which should be some consolation for the film's makers.
