Mission Istaanbul - An album without a vision
IndiaGlitz  [Friday, July 04, 2008]

Director Apoorva Lakhia indeed loves to do macho flicks and has a definite ear for music. With his previous flick 'Shooutout at Lokhandwala' , he bagged couple of hit numbers with multiple composers. Here too he attempts the same with the likes of Mika Singh, Shamir Tandon . Chirantan Bhatt and Anu Malik.

The album opens with 'World Hold On 'an original by Bob Sinclair which was a big hit. Here Shamir Tandon adds a few beats and Shabbir Ahmad writes some lame lines. Rendered by Kunal and Gayatri Ganjawala  , Raaja this song is not even close to the original and is a complete letdown.

Chirantan Bhatt brings in the worst title track in ages with 'Mission Mission' sung by a nasal cum annoying Hamza Faruqi. The lyrics too doesn't intend anything with lame lines signifying that the men in this flick are on the biggest mission till date. Lyrics courtesy-Hamza.

'Jo Gunshuda' begins with a mix of Arabic and Turkish beats and you wonder if you are going to get yet another 'Kaho Na Kaho' from murder. But this time , Anu Malik surprises you with a lovesong crooned by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan that has it serenading effect. The track is truly romantic and is so far the best of the album.

Chirantan Bhatt brings a mix of voices-Hamza Faruqui, Ishq Bector , Neeraj Shridhar and Anoushka to combine to this Hinglish reggae track. 'Nobody like you' offers nothing new and is such a cliché with the Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez touch to it. Even the remix version has nothing to offer.

Javed Ali the man who was behind the mike for one of the most romantic numbers of the year 'Kehne ko Jashn Bahar' from 'Jodha Akhbar' is totally underutilized with 'Yaar Mera Dildaara'. The lyrics by Sameer offers nothing new and even Sunidhi's support can't save this sinking sufi number.

After the 'Ganpat' number in 'Shooutout at Lokhandwala' , it would be so incomplete to have an album without  Mika Singh doing his bit. Now Mika turns composer, writer and singer with 'Apun Ke Saath'. Surprisingly, Mika too falls flat attempting to create exactly the 'Ganpat' feeling. The beats are similar, the lyrics too and the voice modulation too. Altogether the track fails.

On the whole, Mission Istanbul is the weakest album till date for any Apoorva Lakhia film and indeed the poorest one with multiple composers and actors.
