In a country where everybody loves cricket, here is a treat of basketball. After almost a year since it's censorship as a clean entertainer, it is finally here to hit the big screens with a bang. 'Vallinam' starring Nakul and debutante Mrudula is director Arivazhagan's second, after his blockbuster debut, 'Eeram'. Aascar Ravichandran's this movie was delayed due to reasons unknown, but it has finally been announced to release on 28th; following this announcement, there's a fresh wave of excitement about the film's trailer, gathering new record of viewership.

Nakul plays the lead, the sportsperson handling the ball, and Mrudula, his love interest. As per the initial plan, the crew was entirely a different cast - Arulnidhi was first approached to be the hero, but he was later replaced by Nakul. There have been rumours doing the rounds that Jai replaced Nakul further later, but it was baseless. Heroine's role also went in for a series of changes. Bindu Madhavi was initially cast in the lead lady role, but she ended up being replaced by newcomer Mrudula. In fact, even the title went for a change from 'Achcham Thavir' to 'Vallinam' which symbolises strength in chaste Tamil. The crew has had a number of interesting moments, including their 72-hour nonstop work schedule for a particular scene, near Chengalpet.

Marathi actor Atul Kulkarni plays a crucial role in the film, coaching the ambitious who want the millions of heads turning their way, toward a game of basketball. Interestingly, RJ Balaji is also part of the cast for a small yet crucial role. Music of the film was launched along with the trailer last year and this is the second time that Thaman has collaborated with Arivazhagan. The album is a sweet sweet of five interesting songs, the lyrics of one of which owes its credits to late Vaali.

Cricket is a religion here, and everybody watches it. And Arivazhagan presents to us here, the battle that basketball wins against the game that impresses millions. The director has chosen thriller genre yet again, but this time it's all about adrenaline and the spirit of sport. It's very well known that most other sports are usually shadowed by our never ending love for cricket. Wait till this weekend when the director will make our heads turn and cheer for an ambitious team at a winning game of basketball.
