Bombay Talkies - An Ode To Indian Cinema
IndiaGlitz  [Tuesday, April 30, 2013]

Dream. Hope. Desire. Thought. Joy. Want. Love. Sorrow. Four directors - Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee - One story! These stories are the ones they always wanted to say! What happens when they all meet up to direct one?

'Bombay Talkies' is a series of four 20-minute short films that culminates into a movie to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema.

Karan Johar's film is about three individuals Rani Mukerji, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Saleem and how the emotional baggage they carry comes in the way of their relationships.

Anurag Kashyap and Amitabh Bachchan, are coming together for the first time in 'Bombay Talkies'. Big B, who plays a very important link to Anurag's short story, will be doing a cameo, playing himself, in the movie. Anurag's story revolves around an ardent fan of Big B and how he travels from Allahabad to Mumbai to fulfil his dying mother's last wish of feeding the superstar home-made sweet pickle.

Zoya Akhtar's film is about an innocent school boy who wants to be like Katrina Kaif and how he imitates her - by dancing his heart out on the song, "Sheila Ki Jawaani" at all times.

Finally, Dibakar Banerjee's short story is about a failed actor (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who also ends up feeling like a failed human being.

The highlight of the film is the title song, "Apna Bombay Talkies" that features 20 industry stalwarts as well as 20 eminent singers of B-town who has rendered their voice for these stars. It has been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant.

The song has big names including the Khans - Aamir, Shah Rukh and Saif Ali - in addition to Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Farhan Akhtar, Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Bollywood's young brigade - Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone - will also feature in it.

Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, Akshay Kumar, Karisma Kapoor and Juhi Chawla will also be seen in the number. While some of the prominent singers featured in the track are Sunidhi Chauhan, Shaan, Kavita Krishnamoorthy, SP Balasubramaniam, Abhijeet, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Mohit Chauhan, Sonu Nigam, Sudhesh Bhosle, Shreya Ghosal, Shilpa Rao, Udit Narayan, KK and Sukhwinder Singh.

Co-produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Flying Unicorn Entertainment and Ashi Dua, the celebrations starts from May 3rd 2013.
