What is it all about?
The Funtastic Deols of the Yamla Pagla Deewana are back and like to party in order to celebrate the one hundred years of cinema by showing their 'Ashiqui 2' for sequels and themselves. Set in UK Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is well intended where the Deols put their possible best leaving the rest to Sangeeth Sivan and Jasvinder Bath who unfortunately fail the test and just couldn,t come out of obvious gags making the prequel graduate from a good entertainer to a cult comedy.
Like Dabangg2, YPD2 is not a continuation of the story.. the prime characters are the same but the premise is different.. this time the writers Jasvinder Bath (screenplay and dialogue), Lynda Deol (story) and Shubhangi Rathod set the story in UK.. The movie starts with Paramveer Singh Dhillon (Sunny Deol) working as a recovery agent for bank.. a round of events brings Paramveer close to his con father and son duo Dharam Singh Dhillon (Dharmendra) and Gajodhar Singh Dhillon (Bobby Deol) who are happily stealing people in Banaras and while doing so get a chance to con Sir Yograj Khanna (Annu Kapoor) a multimillionaire whose daughter Suman (Neha Sharma) is a huge Salman Khan fan.. Dharam and Gajodhar are eyeing Yograj property via the saat pheras of Gajodhar and Suman.. Paramveer's honesty makes him go against his father and brother and in the midst of all this we have a scoop on Salman Khan, SRK, Sheila Ki Jawaani a Orangutan named Einstein who drinks whiskey and paints better then Picasso... Sumo wrestlers, Paramveer finding his love Reet (Kristina Akheeva) a weird scientists Joginder Armstrong (Anupam Kher) who dreams of making a mall in space.. Ninja fighters and of course Deolisims..
What to look out for
The Deols are Fantastic once again.. its good to watch them together on screen. ..gags like the Orangutan episode and the reactions to the paintings are the most entertaining.. though Dharampaji and Bobby are enjoyable. Sunny gives his best shot. Technicalities are fine. Anu Kapoor is likable as always. Neha Sharma and Kristina Akheeva add glamour.
The Deols are the good part of the movie and they are wonderful but the writers Jasvinder Bath, Lynda Deol and Shubhangi Rathod and director Sangeet Sivan fail to find the rhythm to keep it going. It lurches on tired, tested, monotonous and obvious gags forcing the movie to dig its feet in mediocrity from where even the mighty Deols are unable to pull it off. The spoof on SRK, Salman doesn,t work as it should have.. Music by Sachin Gupta, Sharib and Toshi Sabri music is a letdown. Jonny Lever, Anupam Kher and Sucheta Khanna are forgettable.
Conclusion: Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 fails to live up to the expectations and hype as generated by its successful prequel. Hardcore Deol fans might lap it up but overall it's just a feeling less tickle which doesn,t excites your funny bone except for a couple of occasions.
Rating ** (for Deol's die hard and the amazing Orangutan)
