What is it all about
I Me Aur Main is a finely packed message of togetherness and understanding more than love or romance. This Reliance Entertainment production in association with Rose Movies and Pollen Entertainment is a good example of a rom com that serves as a gender balancer possessing the required ingredients appealing to the urban thinking women while making men willing to go along to as well.
Kapil Sharma introduction to the hemer's club by I Me aur Main delivers to a considerable extant by the support of its lead cast which work as an elevator for the film but still it gives a feeling that more cinematic achievement could have being possible from its premise..
Ishaan (John Abraham) takes everyone for granted and is pampered by his mama (Zarina Wahib) since childhood..he is the darling of the house and is always protected by elder sister Shivani (Mini Mathur). Working as a music producer from Mumbai he is in live in relationship with Anushka and stays in his house and doesn,t even care to pay for the milk.
Irresponsibility, non admittance to mistakes Ishaan's flirtatious nature finds him thrown out of Anushka's house with his mother who has just left her husband and his boss Beena (Raima Sen) not taking him seriously..
At this point, his new neighbor Gauri (Prachi Desai) comes as a silver lining into his life and the film making the transformation happen. Saying more will work as a spoiler but writer Devika Bhagat makes it sure that 'I Me Aur Main' doesn,t end up as a cliché triangle rom com by pumping something extra for women in this story.
What to look out for
The writer Devika and helmer Kapil Sharma make sure that the proceedings are well directed towards the target audience.. keep it simple straight and identifiable they not only get a thumps up from rom com fans but also balance it for both the sexes without pandering to or demeaning either of them.
I Me Aur Main starts as a rom com but ends up as a sweet balancer of love, togetherness and relationships and that's not a mean achievement. The best moments come between Prachi and John.. which are well written and the dialogues are easy.. one more interesting fact 'I Me Aur Main' is about love, relationship and togetherness but it doesn, t has a single love duet, the songs are situational primarily appearing at the times of separation to lift the drama.. composers Sachin-Jigar, Falak Kabir Gaurav Dasgupta and Raghav Sachar do a decent job as songs blend well with the narration while the songs ' Capuchino "I Me Aur Main' and 'Darbadar' stay for a while.
Coming to performances John Abraham turns out to be a good sport in his role of Ishaan which makes you feel like it was tailor made for him.. Chitrangda is fine. Prachi Desai with all her cuteness and spontaneity elevates 'I Me Aur Main' with real heart, sweetness and genuine emotion. She is fantastic.
The other ladies Zarina Wahab, Mini Mathur and Raima Sen prove that the casting director Aadore Mukherjee wasn,t wrong.
Production designer Aparna Raina touch up beautify the settings well captured by Himman Dhamija lenses. Locations are used to fine effect. Production values are of top standards. Ranjeet Bahadur editing is crisp.
John relisation seems a bit sudden.. Samir Soni's character is not defined properly.. the climax seems hurried.. the premise had more potential and could have been exploited for more..
Conclusion: I Me Aur Main is rom com with a distinctly modern cutting edge destined to attract legs with their valentines at nearest plexes.. go for it if you are in a mood to love and wanna understand your love..
