Now kids who want to play Hunger Games have a way to do it without shooting their little brother with an arrow. Today Mattel unveiled its Katniss Everdeen Barbie doll, and it looks pretty amazing... though, now that we think about it, turning an empowered revolutionary into a fashion doll violates everything the character stands for. But look, she has an adorable mini mockingjay pin!
The doll came out so well because it was designed by Bill Greening, a self-professed, ""huge Hunger Games fan."" He tells Entertainment Weekly, "I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans," he says, adding, "The doll's minimalistic style and details - such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look - also really embody the heroic character Katniss."
The slight variations from Barbie's usual perky style really do help capture Jennifer Lawrence's look in the movie. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for all the other dolls Mattel released recently. Kate Middleton and Prince William look pretty darn good, especially considering that artists often have a hard time capturing the Prince's toothy grin without making him look cartoonish.
Kristen Stewart also looks great as Bella in her wedding gown. And as for Robert Pattinson... well, he certainly is pale.
Unfortunately, Katniss is the only Hunger Games character to get the Barbie treatment so far. The Barbie is aimed more at collectors than kids, but we're bummed that there's no Peeta doll for her to make out with.
