 At the celebration moment of ‘Amrutha Mahotsava’ of Kannada cinema the film fans coming from all gates made it very difficult for the organizers to manage the crowd. The attendance for Sunday evening celebration at Bangalore Palace was nearly 1.50 lakh people.
The stage 160x120 feet erected seven feet above the ground was not visible for the crowd. The one hour twenty minutes delay in the arrival of Karnataka Chief Minister further created utter confusion and even on the dais the Kannada cinema industry people appeared largely. The inaugural event that was supposed to take place at 5.30 pm was conducted at 6.50 pm. The Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa took initiative to make the stage free from crowd and actor Ambarish shouted at the cops to get rid of the excess people on dais.
At least half a dozen times, the police had to wield lathis at the booing crowd whenever they thronged towards the stage. The photographers had a very tough time and the electronic media was asked to leave the premises after the inauguration as the television rights is withheld by Udaya TV, a sister concern of Sun Network.
The Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa did not make any special announcements. A few days earlier he had given another boon to Kannada cinema in the mini budget. He had raised the subsidy to 50 Kannada films of Rs.10 lakhs annually from the existing 30 films per year on the basis of quality of films. He has promised to bring in the piracy Act soon. The information minister Khatta Subramania Naidu also referred to bringing in of Piracy Act in the coming days to weed out piracy in Karnataka.
The first Kannada film ‘Sathi Sulochana’ related personalities Pushpakumar, son of the producer of the film Chamanlal Dongra, Panchabashe Thare actress Lakshmi daughter of Y.V. Rao, director of the film and hero of the first Kannada film Subbai Naidu, grand son of actor Srujan Lokesh were honored on the occasion.
Dr. Jayamala, President of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce in the inaugural address remembered those who served and constructed the Kannada cinema industry. Kannada films have been model to other language films she referred to in her address.
When the Nada Geethe (State Anthem) Jaya Bharatha Jananiya Thanujathe…..rendered by Smt.Manjula Gururaj and her Sadhana School students everyone stood up to pay respect.
At 8.45 pm, the most anticipated cultural fest opened up on a well designed stage.
