Film maker Selvamani, the director of movies like ‘Captain Prabhakaran’, ‘Chemparuthi’ and ‘Pullan Visaranai’ has been arrested. R Sundar Rajan was a noted filmmaker and now a popular character artist.
Both the directors had gone to the Cuddalore jail to visit director Seeman who has been given a one year punishment for supporting LTTE through a provoking supportive speech.
During the visit accompanied by more than 50 supporters, it is said that Selvamani and Sundar Rajan raised slogans in support of Seeman and thus indirectly conveying their support for the LTTE.
This action of the film makers and the crowd led to an immediate arrest and now they were kept in judicial custody for a whole day. Later, in the evening they elucidated the fact that they didn’t raise any such slogans and it’s a wrongly accused case.
The police released the people later in the evening, after getting them to sign papers stating that they won’t raise offensive slogans hereafter.
Selvamani is the husband of actress Roja who is a women’s leader in the Telugu Desam Party.
