The stormy petrel for the Kannada cinema industry the Bangalore Regional Censor Officer A. Chandrasekhar furnishing the statistics of the five years progress of his regime bid good bye on June 9 but he addressed the media on last Tuesday afternoon at Press Club of Bangalore.

There has been enormous dip in the quality of Kannada films and average cuts in 2007 was 21.92 percent where as in 2008 it has gone up to 38.27 percent disclosed the honest officer Chandrasekhar who has taken lot of controversies on his head in the last five years. Lack of awareness, novelty and quality in film making has resulted in such down fall he opined. Pointing to the decrease in cuts he has given from 44.49 percent 2005 (3604 meters) to 24.03 percent in 2006 he said the figures went down to 21.92 percent in 2007. The emergence of lot of producers with no grammar and knowledge of film making increased the percentage to 38.27 in 2008 he said. In 2008 the regional censor office in Bangalore certified 165 films while up to June 2009 the certified films are 105 he said. Referring to percentage of crime based films the astonishing fact furnished by Chandrasekhar pointed to 9.4 percent in 2008 from 15.3 percent in 2004 and it was 24 percent in 2007. Except for 2007 the percentage of films awarded ‘A’ category is only 10 percent which is significantly lower here than in other regions he said.

The total number of Kannada films certified in the regime of strict officer of Regional censor board from 2004 to 2009 June are 761 and in that he has not passed two percent of films that is around 30 films. Out of the 30 as many as 14 films got approved as revised version, 9 films got cleared by the revising committee and three films cleared by Tribunal. Only four films have not received any certificates.

Pointing to the yardsticks he applied in his regime Chandrasekhar said the strict care for the usage of language, double meaning dialogues, violence and blood shed and vulgarity is controlled. The transparency, waiting list numbers, open door policy and not heeding to any pressures are the new introductions of my regime claimed Chandrasekhar. On the existing pattern of certificates Chandrasekhar felt the need of three more categories for awards.
