The icon of Kannada cinema Dadasaheb Phalke award winner Dr.Rajakumar stamp was released in the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha by Karnataka Chief Minister Dr. BS Yediyurappa on November 1, Kannada Rajyotsava Day. The chief minister unveiled the huge stamp of Dr.Rajakumar and received the commemorative stamp from Chief Post Master General, Karnataka region M.P.Rajan in the presence of Smt.Parvathamma Rajakumar, Union minister of state for Railways KH Muniyappa, Deputy Speaker of Rajya Sabha Rehman Khan, Water resources minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai, legislator R Roshan Baig, chief secretary to Karnataka government Ranganath, Kannada and culture secretary Jayaramaja Urs and Information director NR Vishukumar.
The entire family of late Dr Rajakumar was present at the postal stamp release on Kannada Rajyotsava Day. The Karnataka Chief Minister Dr BS Yediyurappa thanked the Union government for deciding on the release of stamp on Dr.Rajakumar who is symbol of struggle, peace and success. The Chief Minister also announced the first stage of completion of Dr.Rajakumar Samadhi at Kanteerava Studio and the land of 2.5 acres for Amrutha Mahotsava Bhavana for Kannada industry at Nandini Layout has been identified he said. The chief minister also thanked the Kannada cinema industry for collecting Rs.60 lakhs towards the Flood Relief Fund.
The stamp on Dr.Rajakumar is the 30th one from Karnataka State personalities and institutions. It is the one time commemorative stamp of Rs.5 denomination. The first personality stamp to come was that of Sir M Visveswaraya said MP Rajan, Chief Post Master General, Karnataka region.
Smt.Parvathamma Rajakumar thanked the Union Government and Karnataka State government for taking initiative in the release of stamp. Smt.Parvathamma called upon the people to donate blood and eyes for the needy. ‘Nethra Dhana is Maha Dhana’ is also the slogan of Dr.Rajakumar.
