Gupta Hits out at Remakes

IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 10, 2012]

The economic pundit of Kannada cinema - producer, distributor and exhibitor KV Gupta an old horse in the industry has hit at the 'Remake' culture in Kannada as the main reason for spoiling the atmosphere of the Kannada cinema industry.

A man with firm and decisive thoughts KV Gupta was speaking at the 'Belli Hejje' organized by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy as chief guest at Priyadarshini Hall in Badami House, Bangalore on last Saturday evening.

The big bane to creativity is 'Remake' films feels KV Gupta. The lavishly made film in other languages remade to Kannada in a very small budget is not an easy joke. The Kannada films have market of 60 percent inside Karnataka. Off late 100 to 125 films are made in Kannada but good quality films are washing out with lack of proper distributor touch.

Gupthaji drawing his attention on dubbing said it is not an evil force. It is inevitable. In the past a few of the Kannada films lost heavily for dubbing. I have also protested dubbing in those days. Those were the days the technicians were producers. Now the scene is different. People from different fields of businesses are producers. They are not fully aware of cinema. That is also one of the reasons for bad films in Kannada say Gupta.

According to Gupta the pattern of marketing a film has changed widely. In the early period a distributor was also given a reading of the film. Now after the film is made the distributor is shown the film.
