Why do you make your life hectic? You are most wanted by cinema field?
Why I work day and night is because of the ensuing Panchayat elections in Karnataka. I am not saying no to good roles offered to me, I cannot give up stage performances and more than this I have finished the responsibility of my daughter marriage.
What is acting according to you at this stage?
Acting is not what I am doing now. It is something more. That something more I am searching. I am picking points from here and there to give a new grammar to acting.
Do you have any hopes to produce or direct?
I am interested in acting more and more novel based films with novel concepts for my role. I am not that capable to direct or produce.
Your roles on screen and stage always represent the downtrodden?
That is my choice. I am cool in such roles. But still I have urge. Whatever result I have got today for that theatre is responsible.
What is important between money and good role for you?
For me doing justice to the role is more important. Money is secondary to me.
Is that the reason why accepted 'Veeru'?
I have more than one reason to accept this film. Firstly S.Narayan is a disciplined director. He knows how to catch the attention of artistes to get performance from them. Narayan is one such director I always want to act. The role what I have done in 'Veeru' is very close to rural village women.
How do you look at the rural women problems?
I always tell them in my visits to keep courage. Our rural women know only crying and shouting at the top of their voice when they face difficulties.
Umasri as a politician is rarely available to cinema field is the comment….
It is not like that. Whenever the Congress party gives me job I have to do it. On my own also I go to places to study the situation whenever I am free from theatre and films. I was in Gokak for five days for Panchayat election campaigning. I moved to Jamakhandi for stage play then moved to Hampi came back to Bangalore and tonight I am again going to act in a stage play. Life has to be hectic is what I feel. Wherever I travel the profession is most important to me.
You are a fabulous actress. You have not got awards yet. Do you expect one such award for 'Veeru'?
Just because my role in 'Putnanja' of Ravichandran was a remake I was denied the state award. No problem I said. Now at this point of time I don't think of any awards. For me the audience and media have given right share of affection. That is enough. The role in 'Veeru' is of course different from the rest of my films. I have remained absolutely natural.
Was it not inconvenient to stay without head bath for more than 10 days?
This is where I am different. When director Narayan has taken so much care it is the duty of artiste like me to contribute our share. I remained without applying water or oil to my hair for 10 days. When we take bath and come on the sets it is not natural. The spread hair on the head adds to the trauma I am facing. It is my 'Punya' I got this role.
