What is your role in Family?
I play Amitabh Bachchan's daughter in the film and I am paired opposite Aryaman. The story is about a fight between two families and I come in somewhere in the middle and am instrumental in changing a lot of things. It is a sweet story about emotion and love.
How was your experience acting alongside an actor like Amitabh Bachchan?
Working with Amitabh Bachchan is a great lesson by itself. He is a disciplinarian. In spite of the fact that he comes here with so many years of experience and expertise, I find him so humble and keen on his work. He is always keen on rehearsals and takes advice from others. Even off screen, you just have to be with him and you get this feeling that you are standing next to a star. He carries that charishma along and he is one of the most stylish persons I have ever come across.
Do you consider Family the best break you could get in Bollywood?
Yes of course. It is a Raj Kumar Santoshi film and has Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar. The story too is great and that
now does not leave me with any complaints. I am very lucky to have got my break within two years of moving into Mumbai. I know of many people who come to Mumbai as aspiring actors and stay here for years without making it through that first break.
Are there any more Bollywood films coming up?
Nothing that I have signed up just as yet. But yes I am in the middle of talks. I am very superstitous when it comes to talking about my work. Even when I was working for Family, I stayed away from the public eye till the release date was announced. It is just that I don't want to be talking about something which, if things don't work out the way it ought to, may not be around to show later. The mahurat for Family took place in November last year. But the film will be released only in January 2006. It is a long wait and I did not want to be in the news unnecessarily.
What's on in the Kannada film industry for you?
This is where I began my career and I will continue to be a part of the Kannada film industry. It is easier to work here because firstly, it is your own place and also because the shooting schedules here are pretty short compared to other industries. I will always have time to work here. But as has been the case with all my previous films, I choose roles very carefully and I want to be able to play characters that are more substantial and meaningful. I have no hassles with commercial films at all, but it has to be a worthwhile role.
