    Dream merchant''s dream

    [Interview by Indiaglitz]
    Thursday, July 27, 2006
The show man of Kannada cinema the real dream merchant multifaceted V.Ravichandran is dreaming about seven roles he wants to play that is titled as ''''Naa''''. He requires nearly Rs.10 crores budget for this and he is not banking on any producer. He has started script work for seven roles he intends to play and produce.

We met him on the sets of his latest film ''''Odahuttidavalu'''' at Abbainaidu studio on Wednesday afternoon (26th July, 2006).

Here are the excerpts of an interview with trailblazer of Kannada cinema Ravichandran:

    Your dream is never ending?

Because I always think cinema and my breath is cinema. Now I am contemplating on seven roles for which I am doing seven different works like direction, story, screenplay, dialogues, editing, music and production besides acting.

    Is it not risky?

I do from my own money. Taking risk is in my blood. I always worked for films and profits emerging out of it I invested not in any other area other than cinema.

How do you go about 'Naa'?

I am planning to do it in HD camera. No raw stock of film is required. One shot requires one day for me. Say for example seven Ravichandran's in different get ups walking in Mahatma Gandhi Road Bangalore. No one can imagine such shot. If I tell producers they run away. So I am doing it on my own.

    How 'Odahuttidavalu' has shaped up?

After 'Ramachari' I have acted that touch the middle class audience. In five scenes I stand out in acting overshadowing everyone. I am away from my usual kind of roles. The technical aspect of the film is also very good. Radhika and Rakshita are the heroines. But I am not a pair to anyone. As for as performance is concerned this role is similar compared to 'Ramachari' a remake of 'Chinna Thambi'. In Tamil film Kushboo was all in all in the film. But in Kannada version Malashri acting was sidelined by my performance with good musical scores.

But your fans always want to see you as lover boy with excellent takings and novelty?

Now at present my perception is different. Do just according to what directors say. In Odahuttidavalu, Brahmana, Dashakanta, Yugadhi and a few more after that I do the roles and keep away from various other activities in films.

Your creative thinking is not going waste…..

No. it is increasing. When there is no shooting I go to my van and start working on my thoughts. I feed it to the computer in my van. I am hassle free.

How long it may take to launch 'Naa'?

It may take one or two years. In this period I am going to earn from my acting and invest on my project. I am taking up 'Durgi' with some new thoughts.

We are seeing a different Ravichandran?

When I lost a few crores from home production then I started rethinking on my home projects. How I should accrue money.

Are you happy with the first half of 2006?

No. Kannada films are facing the competition from Kannada films. This is not a good trend. Earlier we used to find the competition from other languages. The fittest survive while many films go waste without theatres to screen.

What is happening to Kannada film artistes Association?

I have listed out lot of ideas for the benefit of the association that is not functioning since six years. Rising fund for various good activities should happen instead of building club and bar at the place given during the regime of J.H.Patel as chief minister. The heroes and supporting artistes welfare is the need of the hour. There is a meeting taking place on 13th. In the last meeting held I said there should not be any President and other post. Everyone should work in the President capacity. There is lot of colorful dreams with regard to Artistes Association with me.

It is disorganized when it comes to film city?

On a competition they apply for land. I have chalked out a plan to pump money via theatre tickets so that the process of film city kicks off in a wonderful style. My idea was to generate Rs.20 crores per month for the construction of Film City at Hesaraghatta.

What ails Kannada film industry according to you?

There should be punishment for mistakes first. The rules and guidelines should not be disturbed or over looked. For example exhibitor – he charges per ticket for all facilities inside the theatre. But he does not provide anything. He takes service charge per ticket. He takes money from parking, the eatables are expensive the toilets are rubbish and the projection is hopeless. They take the cream. They don't even pay the collected amount in a systematic way.
