    Gleeful Ganesha

    Friday, September 08, 2006
Doing paltry roles and anchoring ''Comedy Time'' show Ganesh has grown steadily in show business. He has catapulted to the position of hero in Kannada cinema from ''Chellata''. Where there is comedy there you find Ganesha.

He is sitting pretty with triple happy news. His maiden film as hero ''Chellata'' completed 100 days, television anchoring ''Comedy Time'' completed 1000 episodes and ''Mungaru Male'' is a new experience in his life. Talkative, workaholic and unassuming Ganesha spoke in detail for 45 minutes over telephone on his return from first schedule of ''MM''.

    Excerpts of an interview:

Ganesh is going great in the profession?

There is struggle, support and hard work behind for the pretty good going in profession.

    What is that struggle?

I struggled to get a decent role in films. I worked very hard day and night. I never sat idle.

    What is the support?

I got the support mainly from my younger brothers Mahesh and Umesh. They worked hard to give me this situation today. They maintained the family when my father retired from service.

You have been very naughty from young age?

That is true. I always use to keep roaming with my dozen friends in Nelamangala. I told my father that I am not interested in studying at high school level. But they forced me to complete Diploma in Electrical Engineering.

You think of your earlier days very often….

We should not forget the past. First time for 'Savira Sullu' I played a role on stage. In Sadarame, Kadadhida Neeru I continued my acting on stage. 'Yechchamma Nayaka' role I performed was the best of all. I started a music troupe, joined Adarsha film institute.

You made debut in Television or film?

For 'Attige' television serial I was spotted by great director Bhagwan. Then I played in Sadhane, Samagama, Prema Kathegalu, Ankura, Bhagya, Vatara, Papa Pandu etc. But 'Comedy Time' anchoring brought me laurels. It has completed 1000 episodes.

How did you get entry to films?

Television director B.Suresh traced me for his 'Tapori'. Sundry roles in Kannada film Dreams, Game, Kaun Banega Karodpathi, Abbabba Entha Huduga I was not satisfied.

    Breakthrough came from Jagadish Kotyan….

I was selected by producer Kotyanji and director M.D. Sridhar for 'Chellata' that has completed 100 days and still running.

It seems you are immersed in 'Mugaru Male'?

As the name also indicates maximum portion of the film was shot in the rain in Sakleshpur surroundings. I was immersed in rain water for nearly 20 days.

What is your experience shooting in the rain?

I am thrilled and totally satisfied with dexterity of Yogaraj Bhat. The support of producer Krishnappa and Gangadhar is also important because shooting in the rain is not an easy joke.

The maximum portion was shot in natural rain it seems?

Yes. Out of 28 days schedule 20 days the shooting was held in natural rain. The shooting was planned like that. It is a love story. I talk most of the time in the film. Yoga practice I make has come to my help to maintain steady health. Natural rain cooperated very well.

Your responsibility was more it is told…..

It is because the entire shooting was planned on my character. The first few days shooting in rain water I developed skin disease. But I got adjusted taking rose water and pain killers. Whenever the rain started the shooting also started. I knew very well that I go sick it would obstruct the entire shooting process. Nearly Rs.2 lakhs was invested per day for the shooting. Perhaps no one has stayed in the rain water from morning 6 till 6 in the evening.

How was your company with versatile actor Ananthnagji?

It is a life time experience. On the final day of shooting Ananthnagji called me and said he liked me immensely. That is more than getting an award for me. We both worked for three and half pages dialogue shooting from morning 10 am to 3 pm.

Ganesh tell me frankly whether you are planning to project this film in the national level?

The film has the contents. The songs of Mano Murthy the successful music director in Kannada are pretty good. The film is shot 75 percent in rain. I have company of two rabbits with me. Sanjana Gandhi learning Kannada has played very naturally. I have captured the making of 'Mungaru Male' in hand camera. I want to bring out the 'Making of Mungaru Male' (MMM). I have maintained a diary also.

How is the film on the technical front?

We have hired new cameras for shooting in the rain. Cameraman Krishna kept the camera under the water for some portion. It was affected with fog. We had to abandon shooting for half a day to set right the camera.

How is your role in 'MM'?

I play a talkative straightforward youth. Everything is set in serene atmosphere. Almost all the scenes I keep the viewers engaging. I used to discuss a lot with director Yogaraj Bhat.
