Music Is My Living – Manikanth Kadri

    Thursday, September 20, 2007
Music is not an acquired culture… it is an active part of natural life. In the case of Manikanth Kadri music is in the genes. His father is Padmashri Kadri Gopalanth very famous in Saxophone. Now his son is making foray in to Kannada film music with thorough training. Junior Kadri is a melody music lover.

''''I want to get applaud from my father'''' is the one point agenda of Manikanth Kadri in life. Two of his Kannada films ''''Ganesha and Mr Garagasa'''' audio cassettes have come out recently and the scorings are different with melody taking central place.

We met this gentleman Manikanth Kadri who has grown a pony tail hair style that gives him the western look at GM Rejoyz in Malleswaram Bangalore at the audio release function.

    Excerpts of an interview:

    Music is everything for you?

Yes. I go to concerts with my stalwart father Kadri Gopalanth and accompany him in Saxophone. As usual when I sit with him I become nervous.

    Have you undergone training?

Right from childhood I was given training by my father. I was with Asif Ali and learnt vocal from Srinath Marathe in Mangalore. In 2001 I worked on a fusion with Saxophone instrument. 'Dream Journey' I have composed has four volumes.

What are the other films assignments you worked before coming to Kannada films?

In Kerala I have won the award for best Television film scoring for 'Annum Malaya Irunam'. The other films I worked there are 'Smarts City, Chandranile Kuruvali. For Rajashri Ojha's big star cast 'Chowrah –He' Hindi-English film I have scored the music.

    What is music for you?

Music is my living. It is an ocean the more you learn the more it generates.

What is your conversation with internationally acclaimed father?

In any work related to music I do he points out the mistakes. He is always correct in doing it. No argument with the genius. He keeps me informed when he tries out new ragas. Recently I was surprised to hear from him from United States of America. That was after a concert. He told me the new ragas he tried that could be useful for me.

What is that you are looking from him?

I want his appreciation one day. That's all.

What is trump card for you in scoring music for films?

I go for melodies. Melody is like blood in human body. Music lovers are too many in this world. For those who enjoy music I don't want to disappoint in my work.

What is your experience with Dinesh Baboo who has flavor for music?

He is brilliant when it comes to music. When I give high frequency mood for the song he patiently hears and gives a convincing argument. He says a listener has good music sense. He does not give room for argument and he says just change it when it is not to his liking.

    Are you married?

Very recently I got married. My wife is Aditi. She was working in Citi Bank earlier.
