    Dexterous director triple 'Kush'

    Thursday, September 27, 2007
One of the dexterous directors of Kannada cinema Dinesh Baboo is in triple happiness. He is floating a new team to make creative film in minimum budget, he is appearing for the first time before the camera in ''Accident'' Kannada film directed by Ramesh Aravind and he is taking up his 25th film to direct.

Style, discipline, creative thoughts and audience interest are always taken care of by Dinesh Baboo who is also a fine cinematographer. Films like ''Inspector Vikram, Suprabhata, Idhu Sadhya, Amrutha Varshini, Laali, Magic Ajji, Hendthigelbedi etc given him a comfortable standing in Kannada filmdom.

After the media briefing of ''Accident'' Kannada film at Shakthi Cultural Association in Banashankeri and at GM Rejoyz on the same day after the release of two audio of his films ''Ganesha and Mr Garagasa'' he spoke to this correspondent.

    Excerpts of an interview:

Why do you want to act in a film?

It is because Ramesh Aravind wants me to act I am here as inspector in 'Accident'. I will be helping out Ramesh and his friends in this 'Accident' film. I know the caliber and we both of us vibe very well. I am confident about him and I am not guiding him in the script for this film. I am just acting under his direction. From the days of 'Amrutha Varshini' he had thought of making me to act in his direction.

Do you accept some more offers?

It is difficult but the films without heroine, fight and dance I can try out.

What's happening in life? What happened to 'Akasha Gange'?

The going is good with a series of films on hand and the trio producers of 'Akash Gange' have the ego clash and the film is in the cans. I have done my work and even to this day there is good talk about that film.

You are coming to the 25th film. What is the preparation?

I have three scripts ready. One of them is for Dr.Vishnu and Sudeep. I want this to be my 25th film. This is for producer Jack Manjunath. I have another project going for Jack Manjunath starring Prajwal. The story discussion is for Premkumar's 'Janumadha Janumadhali'.

Do you have any other interesting scripts with you?

I have one on the life of a hangman. It is a real life story in West Bengal. There was demand for one and only hangman. He demanded five acres of land and a government job for his son. The government gave him both. After this is what my story starts. At the job his son faces pestering for procuring job by hanging a person and when the hangman goes to tilling the lands the adjacent land owners look him sending wrong signals that hurts him very much. The son is the hero in this case. He goes in search of the family of the person who was hanged by his father and hand over whatever the family got from the government. This script I have told many but no one is interesting in producing this film.

Is this 'Mr Garagasa' remake of Hindi film 'Beja Fry'?

No, it is inspired from 'Dinner Game' English film. The aspect of father marrying just 8 to 10 years difference of age of the daughter is not acceptable here. I have used my prerogative and changed. Ananthnag is producer, Nagabharana is director and Komalkumar is a story teller.

You have made this in a short span of time and shoe string budget?

Yes. This film 'Mr Garagasa' is shot in just nine and half days and Rs.42 lakhs is the budget. I am a partner to this and my remuneration will be on the profit made. From television channel alone we have Rs.35 lakhs demand. Then we have the risk of Rs.7 lakhs. With such a star cast I think we will make wonderful profit.

Is this a new trend you are floating?

I am with a few others formed a team. We will allow newcomers in our team. A good story teller and new director aspirant is groomed by this team. We will add to his intelligence and creativity. Then we make the film in the banner.
