    [Interview by IndiaGlitz]
    Tuesday, March 18, 2008
The founder of Indian Classic Arts Roopa Iyer is forging ahead in a marvelous style to become another woman director of Kannada filmdom. She has taken up a great cause in her maiden film ''''''''Mukhaputa'''''''' that is ''''''''Cover Page'''''''' in non-Kannada languages when it is released. The redeeming feature of Roopa Iyer''''''''s debut film is that it focuses on the HIV positive in innocent children. An eloquent speaker Roopa holds the credit for conducting the charity show of A.R.Rahman musical evening in Bangalore in 2005.

Very studious and multifaceted personality Roopa Iyer spoke to Indiaglitz in an exclusive chat:

This is the age to enjoy in life. You have taken up a great task?

We should not think of age of entertainment and enjoyment when certain issues strike our mind. Doing a film on HIV AIDS and showing it to the world is my dream. I am at it from last five years. Although I direct this film in Kannada my mother tongue I will take it to the world languages. I have that support extended by bigwigs.

    Who are the bigwigs?

I am in discussion with the most sought after writer Jayanth Kaikini in the script, ace cameraman S.Ramachandra has extended full support and national award winning music director Hamsalekha has given admirable support. Besides this technical support I have great information on the subject from international researchers and academicians as advisors. Dr. Satish, president of HIV Research Association of India, Prof. Narayan Hosmane, two times Humboldt Award winner of Northern Illinois University to help authenticate the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment to dispel the misconceived notions of the terminal disease.

How did you contact such bigwigs?

I keep traveling USA, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and other countries from my Indian Classic Arts. I have given performance of classical and contemporary dance program besides producing such events. I have received the prestigious 'Pravasi' award from the NRI Institutes. In one of my last visits I met Prof.Narayan Hosmane in Chicago and explained my thoughts of 'Mukhaputa'.

You are making this an art or commercial film?

This will be a commercial film but objective is very clear. Awareness on AIDS is the main thrust. The film is set in a small town in South India Srirangapatna where a socially responsible educationally oriented traditional woman adapts a young baby girl. After several years it is discovered the child had HIV at birth.

The challenges faced by the girl, her family and the society it showcases the pre-conceived notions that society infers on patients with HIV and how children and their family are coping up with life. 'Grow against all odds' reinforces the strength needed. The message is applicable to all around the world that are struggling to grow in a biased society for no fault of innocent children. I am emphasizing on the need of non academic education, the time and love for such victims.

When you are taking up shooting?

I will start in May at Srirangapatna. Shooting will be held for 15 days in the tiny Brahmin village and then it will move to Gokarna and Bangalore for rest of the shooting. The song composition starts from April first week.

You have made the cast selection?

I will be playing the lead and from the 120 orphan children I look after twenty will be trained and three will be finally selected. The real heroes are these children according to me. I am using Sri Adhi Shankaracharya sloka and three songs will be composed by Hamsalekhaji. Union minister and leading actor Mr Ambarish, noted producer Rockline Venkatesh, Chi.Gurudut have confirmed to be a part of this film.

What do you do from the profit you earn from this film?

The entire profit earned goes to 'Namma Mane' trust I have formed. I am also one of the producers with Prof.Narayan Hosmane and Subraya Hosmane.
