    'I Have made a ground' – Smitha

    Thursday, May 29, 2008
The bubbly and sensuous actress on Kannada screen with eight Kannada film in two years showed her daringness from intimate role in ''Avva''. Her smooch scene in ''Avva'' with actor Vijay became talk of the town. Glowing eyes, smiling face, bit dark and possessing attractive looks Smitha has become a rage. Speaking to this correspondent after the media briefing of her this week (30th May 2008) release ''Athmeeya'' Kannada film Smitha says she has taken a short break reduced her weight by five kilograms to accommodate a different kind of photo shoot. In place of Rakshita and Radhika here comes a delectable actress with right attitude to progress in filmdom. Her ''Manthra'' is ''Give me good roles''.

Excerpts of an interview with this Mysorean Smitha a highly qualified software engineer from CMRIT Bangalore:

Where you are heading for reducing your weight?

I should wait and watch. From the third portfolio which I am doing I would dispatch my photographs. I wanted to become thin. Worked out very hard cut down eating oily food, I eat only home food. I am a strict vegetarian and regular exercise made possible to reduce five kilograms of weight. I am waiting for last one and half months for right kind of role. I have not ring the calling bell of any director or producer house. I am waiting for results of 'Athmeeya'.

Ever since the smooch scenes in 'Avva' we thought you got many offers….

No. I also expected that such scenes would give me more offers. But nothing of that happened thankfully. My presence is felt in the industry but a big breakthrough should take place. My own good friends staying in United States of America have not seen 'Avva'. My parents are aware of such scenes because they have read 'Mussanje Katha Prasanga' of P.Lankesh.

You do not repent for doing such role?

The role in 'Avva' is best in my career so far. I do not repent for anything. I do not do anything that forces me to repent.

Why the industry is not giving you good meaty roles because you are also a good performer?

I have done eight films – Akasha Gange, Sixer, Avva, Mathad Mathad Mallige, Kallarali Hoovagi, Gandhi Smiles, Dheena and Athmeeya. There is recognition that I am a good performer. I will remember 'Avva' as of now as my best film. I would wait for creamy roles in Kannada. Working with directors like Dinesh Baboo, Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar, T.S.Nagabharana I am feeling glad.

    You are getting good remuneration?

For 'Akasha Gange' it was very nominal and my remuneration for 'Athmeeya' is highest so far.

Do they expect something else from you?

I am not ready for such expectations. I would only say give me good roles. Now that I have reduced five kilograms everyone is telling I look better than before. Give me roles is what I would say.

Monica got entangled in a murder case. What do you say?

After hearing the news report my parents are worried. I am scared.

Are you heading for Mumbai filmdom if you don't get right opportunities?

I have made a strong foothold in Kannada cinema. I am not interested in Mumbai as of now.

You have studied software engineering. Is it not of any help to you now?

I am not interested in software profession. My interest lays in cinema industry completely.

With no offers as of now what are you doing now?

I am reading a lot, working out to keep myself fit, watching very good films and updating on the developments.
